If I'm not mistaken, the volumetric weight should come up to about 5-6kg. All in all, still very worth it to buy lah even after GST.

Just upgraded my own to 12GB ram. ;)

hi guys,

i am interested in upgrading my laptop to a ThinkPad for business...

i had used the several brands for my business before;
Acer - good specs at attractive pricing but after 1 year, many problems came... (i think they purposely design to last within warranty period only)
Dell - good specs at attractive pricing but laptop occassionally unstable but after reformat to original condition ok... really don't feel stable and tough especially when use during travel...
HP - average specs at ave pricing... sent for service within a year and laptop starts to be unstable after 1.5 years of usage...
Toshiba - average specs at high pricing... occasionally will give problems either on hardware or software so after a while i stop using it...

can anyone advise me how to get the ThinkPad from US instead of local as it seems that it is cheaper overall and warranty is recognize in Singapore also...
correct me if i am wrong...

Hi Thomas,

1) Create an account with vpost, comgateway or borderlinx. They will give you a US shipping address
2) Create an account with Amazon if you haven't done so. You'll need to link it to a credit card. Add your US shipping address. Now you're ready to shop!
3) Go to shop.lenovo.com/us and buy your ThinkPad. The Amazon payment option will limit you to one item only. So if you want another item (eg. bag, mouse...etc) you'll have to make another separate purchase.
4) The ThinkPad will be shipped to your forwarder. Apart from the shipping fee, there will be GST too, so factor that in before making your purchase

Happy shopping

Video rendering? Then go for a W530, offers quad core processors, up to 32GB of ram, nVidia Quadro K2000M, FHD screen, up to 2 hdd drives

The cost of this could get you a super desktop though. FYI, you can use the Mac to run Windows via separate partition or through Bootcamp

Lots...have to check frequently as their coupons expire quickly.
ThinkPad Professional-Grade Laptop PCs | Computers | Lenovo | (US)

But if you want the best deal and you have an Amex card, then the Daily Wish site is the lowest prices you will find online. Note that you will have to add a secondary US billing address (ie the forwarders address) to your card and the verification checks done by Lenovo is super stringent.
how to add a secondary US billing address (ie the forwarders address) to your card?

the amex wish list really cheaper than the normal one...

Just call Amex and tell them that you want to add a secondary billing address. Make sure that your address matches the one in your order. You might also receive an email from the Lenovo Credit Procesing Dept for verifications....so need to call US...very leh cheah. Good luck. ;)

Hi. My friend has a Thinkpad X61 (7674-GK1)laptop on Vista and wants to upgrade to Win 7. Unfortunately, we cannot find the drivers on Lenovodrivers and support website.
Could you help to suggest where else we can find the drivers today or which is the correct page on Lenovo web we should look at?

It's there, just type '7674' in the machine type/model field here -

So thinkpads have international warranty?

I understand they have two service centres with two standards.

Looking at x1carbon or x230

Yup, if you buy ThinkPads from lenovo.com, they will be eligible for IWS (international warranty service). There are two types of warranty - Carry-in or on-site. The former means that you have to bring the ThinkPad down to either Changi Business Park or Park View Square. The later means that a technican will come down to your location and conduct the repairs.

PC Show is on now, you should check it out as I saw some ads in the paper for the X1 Carbon

Both are on different operating systems.

What is the primarily reason for shortlisting the MBA? Is it the form factor/design or you have certain software that work on Mac only?

Mac OSX is not difficult to learn and use; need to adapt to the interface.

I have the X1C and a MBA previously and find that both are equally reliable and durable. I'm still using the X1C and have upgraded the MBA to rMBP coz I like the lightweight of X1C. The rMBP remains my design workhorse.

If you are trying out Mac, I suggest stick to X1C instead unless you have the budget. Can always sell the MBA if not used to it later and buy the X1C.
