For those with ExpressCard slots on your classic ThinkPads (e.g. X220, X230, T420, T430, etc), there's an ongoing Indiegogo campaign to fund an ExpressCard NVME adapter, allowing you to run an additional M.2 2242 NVME SSD in your ThinkPad. Not exactly cheap at USD 35 before shipping but it gives additional options for those looking to zhng their classic ThinkPads.

I recently bought a x280 refurbished @800. I5/16gb/256gb

i didnt get it as my concern is the soldered ram.

embarked on a new mini project. bought a old T440P and fully overhauled the unit

1. Replaced the top cover,palm rest, lcd bezel and bottom cover
2. Upgrade the screen to a Innolux 1080p. Gorgeous colors
3. Changed keyboard to backlit
4. Change the trackpad to T450 model
5. Change the HSF to Delta model plus Kryonaut thermal paste
6. Ram maxed out at 16GB
7. Upgraded CPU to 4712MQ
8. Installed a 250GB SSD to WWAN slot
9. 2.5" SSD into main HDD slot
10. Added a third HDD into the optical caddy
11. Swapped out the battery for 9 cell and adapter to 90W
12. Upgraded wifi card to AX200

Changes were so extensive that the only components untouched were the mobo and the internal base frame.

Next project will be the x240

I used to use a x240 2 years ago at my previous workplace. OMG, I have no idea how on earth it just refuse to die, soooo hardy.
I am just curious. Is a corporate x240 any different than those selling at SLS?

no...still same. SLS also mostly selling decomm corporate units

those 2nd hands are probably items that corporate companies removed from their asset list and the shops went to bulk purchase them. they then refurbish and sell them off to us.


the good thing i realized about thinkpads vs hp elitebook and other business laptops is that there are abundant of spares available on the market even after 5 years when it stopped production.

yup, almost literally any minor spare parts for thinkpads that you can think of can be found in market
