Waiting for X series to have DP, HDMI, USB3 and Thunderbolt. Basically all the good to have connectors. Looks like it's a long wait. NVM, will tahan with my current X201 i5-540 in the meantime.

At least there's the option of all day computing with the new X220. I wonder how much heavier is the additional battery.

Hi people!
Im planning to purchase a laptop for my poly course.
Thinking of getting the thinkpad x201 - Cos very light! 1.4kg only and relatively cheap at 1.7k compared to outside.
However i saw the thinkpad x220 coming out soon. Should i wait for the release or the x201 is actually more than good enough for my daily needs?
Don't really need to game much cos already got a gaming pc at home,im using it basically mainly for school stuff and work.
Kindly advise!
Thank u:)

The wait never ends.

Unless you want things like HD screen etc, the X201 should be good enough to consider. For sure now is, we are not aware how much would the X220 cost when it reaches us.

Non HD screen is a big minus point to x201. Otherwise is a nice pricely notebook to pick.

I guess the non hd isnt a huge issue to me because i have my own pc for my gaming/movie needs.
I just want a laptop that will be reliable and speedy in my daily studies and work. Like my current 3 year old compaq laptop. Oh and portability is v impt to me as well.

So i guess for this price of $1710 it is a good deal? Suffice for all my needs?

Hi folks,

I just installed an Intel X25m 80GB SDD on my T61p and I can feel an improvement in the performance. The palm rest is very cool now since the drive doesnt generate any heat at all. Also there isnt any movement or vibrations under my right wrist now - an odd but wonderful feeling!

I've yet to run any games, but the air expelled from the exhaust vent is actually cool! Any object placed a few CM away from the vent would have been warmed up pretty much previously and now my redundant laptop cooler serves a lesser purpose.

Installing Win 7 still took a while, longer than I expected, but the start up time and shut down time has reduced quite a bit. I figure the improvement is about 3 - 5 seconds faster than previously. Running apps like Photoshop, Flash, Open Office is also faster - takes about 2-3 seconds to open.

The Windows Experience Index now shows 7.2 for my disk data transfer rate!

It was a rather costly upgrade - almost $250, but what the heck, I was in Osaka and was flush with Yen after cutting short my trip.

Fan error is a common issue for many TP series. Many case you can open up and do some cleaning to fix the problem.

You will find T61p only run at SATA1 speed. Your X25m can run much faster then what you get currently.

You're right...the T61p only runs at SATA1 to support ultrabay devices, but I just downloaded a hacked bios from here to make it run at SATA2

Now i get a disk drive Windows Experience index of 7.6, so i guess it should be running at 3GB/s there abouts. =:p

You can download and install Intel Matrix Storage manager for the chipset to confirm.

Quite a common problem. Even my T400 has some funny noise coming from the fan sometimes.

From what I was told, the E420s is coming in April. Was enquiring about the T420s availability and the shop brought up a cheaper alternative, which is the E420s.
