Hi the T420 does not have a HDMI port but a Display Port instead. Is using a display port-hdmi adapter the only soultion to ooking up to your HD tv? And where is a good place to buy such an adapter? Thanks
VGA out should work too for connecting your T420 to the HD TV.

u mean vga-hdmi adapter? where to get it and what's the price range? Thks
depends on the tv really. some natively support displayport.

what he means is if your tv has vga support, just hook it up using a vga cable.( since the laptop has vga out)

dont bother with vga to hdmi. what you probably want if vga isnt up to standard is a displayport to hdmi or display port to dvi converter.

of course it still boils down to what inputs your tv accepts.

If your TV already has the Standard VGA port (D-Sub), you dont need any more adaptor.

Just need a piece of VGA cable which cost probably in the range of $20 and you can do the job already.

T61 is a good engineered laptop, a tough workhorse.

The next series after that the T400, X200 and so on, the batteries have designed and current capacity values that you can see from the power manager. So now when I buy lenovo, I don't look at charge cycle anymore, i look at the current capacity vs the design capacity.

Comparing lenovo vs other brands in my office for the past 10 years, I still continue to use lenovo.........

The T61 is built like a tank. Never had any issues with my office T61s for the past 3-4yrs.

I just received my displayport-hdmi converter from ebay last night for connection between my X220 (displayport) and Monitor (HDMI-DVI) here: http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150582148900&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT. Total cost: S$13.50.

Works as advertised. Haven't tried it from X220 (displayport) to HD TV (HDMI) yet though. Maybe tonight.

Cheers!

For those using thinkpads, is the in-house power manager program reliable when configuring the lifespan of your battery? Is it safe to leave your battery in the laptop (for those removable kind) and let the power manager ensure it does not overcharge? Even if leaving it there the 24/7?

Anybody bought the ultraslim 90W travel adaptor? How much is this?

Thanks!

Thinkpad has the best power manager that you can configure ac power not to charge your battery if it didn't go down below a certain threshold, say 30%.

I always leave my battery in. Whenever there is a power plug, I will plug use the power. Battery is not charged unless it drop below my configured threshold. This help to reduce the charge cycle. Every battery has a limited charge cycle.

My battery normally can last >3 years, about 4 years.

Finally tried hooking up using the displayport converter to HDMI to my HD TV. Works like a charm, both visual & audio was transferred from the X220 to my HD TV. Unfortunately, my HD TV wasn't displaying colours properly due to the fact of it being old (4yrs old). Will report back again after my new LED TV comes in the next few days.

@ Suffian: Sorry, I didn't bother to check around in Singapore. I just went on ebay and purchased it and waited for about a week for it to arrive.

Can anyone share if it is worth it to buy Thinkpads (such as T420 or X220) from overseas location, such as US or HK, when on holiday?

Especially when the USD and HKD is quite low now to the SGD.

Anything to take note of?
Besides making sure of the 3 years international warranty, and that the adapters should be able to take in the 110-240V range?

If buying in Hong Kong, be extra careful if you are buying from smaller shops. Check the set carefully to make sure it is the right model you are getting and the specifications are as stated in the brouchers.

Also note, although it might be the same T420/X220 series, configurations might differ from what you find in our stores. So the prices might not exactly be a good indicator that it is cheaper or whatsoever.

Yes, the adaptor should be universal.

Did a few price comparisons on the US website and it much cheaper over there. Only worry I had was that if there is any issues, resolving it can be a bit tricky so bit the bullet and bought it here in Singapore.

It's much cheaper in the US. But did you customize the warranty and OS to match those we see in Singapore?
