During Black Monday, the T420 i3 was going for USD650.

Add in shipping of about USD50 and GST another USD50

USD750 makes it about S$950 after exchange and credit card commission. Still very cheap compared to Singapore and I'm willing to forgo warranty. Acad pricing though i7, cost $1700.

Use forwarding company lor.. Borderlix..
The price was very attractive... Corporate price + 10% ecoupon discount..

my last experience with Borderlinx is not good. They put the original box (not thinkpad though) in another bigger box (double the size) with some lousy air bubble cushion. Not secure. But because of the double size, the shipping price went up almost double.

If you add 2nd and 3rd year warranty cost. It will turn out the same when you purchase in Singapore (may be Singapore still do not have i3 model?).

A few thing you have to take note.
1. Type of wireless card in Thinkpad. Singapore mostly Intel, USA model has few option.
2. Win7 version, usually in Singapote, T model come with professional version.
3. Other misc feature eg. Memory card reader, web cam, LCD screen type and battery size. Also, sometime "free" memory upgrade.

eg
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000
ThinkPad b/g/n
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN)
Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (3x3 AGN)
Intel Centrino Advanced+ WiMAX 6250

Which one did you get?

cheap is one thing ,warranty is another thing.Without warranty if anything happen the cost of repairing maybe a lot?You might still end up paying more in the long run?Or if you dont want to repair then it become a white elephant.Warranty to a certain extent is needed!

Depends on personal preference. It's just like insurance. Some people buy it, whereas some don't believe in it. Buying it locally doesnt give you the choice, which is why some people still rather buy online. The money saved could be used to upgrade components....etc

But the point is you spend the saving to upgrade the components.Without warranty is still a 50 to 50 chance. What the point of having a powerful laptop but without a peace of mind?Nowadays things are not as durable as last time so warranty is even more important.I sure it a heart pain to see your tip top laptop broke dwn and you do not have warranty to repair it.Worse still repairing on your own could cost a bomb.

Ya, you are right. So you cannot compare the price of orange vs apple as one come with 3 years warranty and the other covers only 1 year depot warranty.

Anyway, exchange rate is to advantage for Singapore right now. Make sure the credit card company bill you at the correct monment where exchange rate is to your advantage.

So what's the diff between the depot vs local warranty?
Seems like depot is supported in SG as well?

Quest, if you received the shipping notice from Lenovo then it is wonderful news for ThinkPad lovers in Singapore. If Lenovo US accepts orders via Borderlinx, then its a boon to all those who want to get a ThinkPad cheap. Lenovo typically bars the shipping address of freight forwarders, but it looks like they may have a change of heart.

Can I just check whether I'm eligible to extend my warranty locally if my laptop was bought from the US? Thinking of extending my warranty to 3 years... but was told by resellers I could only extend it from the US side.

Local Thinkpad is onsite service if I still remember correctly. Depot service is you send in to Lenovo. You pay one way courier fee. If your new Thinkpad has a valid international warranty. Then you can send in to Thinkpad service center locally.

Some specification may be different. eg, US keyboard vs International English keyboard. Power adapter may be 2 pins instead of 3 pins type etc.

Where to buy DDR3-1600 RAM?

Hi all,

I saw some price lists and i did not see any so-dimm ddr3 1600mhz ram, i only see it in dell machine customization. I am planning to upgrade to 4GB x 2DIMM (1600MHz)

Is there any place in Singapore sells Hyper-X or other 1600MHz laptop ram? I have checked in Ingram Micro and Convergence website, what they have at most is 1333MHz

Thanks
Peter

If you have a X220, please note that the maximum speed the new X220 supports is DDR3 1333 mhz, you can use the 1600 ram, it will just run at the 1333 mhz speed.
