Infantrymen are soldiers who are specifically trained for the role of fighting on foot to engage the enemy face to face and have historically borne the brunt of the casualties of combat in wars. As the oldest branch of combat arms, they are the backbone of armies.

9 SIR falls under the command of 2 PDF Command, Island Battalion.

9 SIR is essentially responsible for the protection of public KINS to ensure that the daily life of Singapore is unaffected.

Though I cannot say specifically where are the public KINS, but i believe most of us here should have seen TRANSCOM officers at various MRT Stations patrolling.

9 SIR, does the same role of TRANSCOM, but public transportation does not fall under the responsibility of 9 SIR anymore.

In addition, a 9 SIR infantry trooper will be equipped with close combat skills, authority to carry lethal weapons, and the power to search and arrest suspects.

I would say, 9 SIR is interesting.

I'm assuming he has no background of what an infantry trooper is doing specifically in 9 SIR... I think by now, the word infantry shouldn't be an alien word to any teenager...

I was from 8SIR. The main responsibility is protecting the KINS. however, you might have different responsibilities during your each duty cycle. You could be in response force, or duty force. More details depends on your commander, as 9SIR is too big. Within 9SIR, there are sub units and departments.

I was a POI MP until they change it to all infantry that means during the old 6sir times. bad thing is the shift, if not wrong should be 5 days work 2 days off, regardless weekend/ public holidays or not. so now they still give out POI hats ?

hmm interesting. last time the estab of 6SIR very interesting one.
sometimes they chiong sua sometimes they revert to POI. they basically rotate the POI duties among the 5 companies in the battalion.

on top of that, their suport coy still got Sniper Plt, MP Plt and other random ppl dunno from where one.

6SIR was an interesting chapalang infantry battalion then.
I heard when 8 + 9 SIR took over the entire 8/9SIR battalion are all RPs correct. so effectively all those ppl in changi airport are no longer MP/rifleman but purely RP ah?

No more RP with effect from 2010 onwards.

All RPs are converted to ST(security trooper).

8 SIR and 9 SIR are different. 8 SIR is in charge of protecting "protected places" while 9 SIR protects public KINS.

You can still see 9 SIR people in changi airport at certain timings.

I realise you can write long sentences without punctuation.

Did I deny anything? Everybody is using the new term but you're still stuck with the old one? O.O
