Installing windows 10 os using USB drive help

If the thumbdrive is reformatted to act as installation drive, will it get cranky if we put other stuff inside? It would be similar to putting additional stuff into a Windows CD.

I physically tested and reformat my PC many times so I can gurantee its safe. I had other files like games, motherboard drivers and softwares and some powerpoint slides that I use to transfer and end lazy to delete. Had a movie in it as well. I had all this stuffs after creating this thumbdrive. Generally, I believe it has been programmed to look for its own file for windows installation. I see the windows iso intact and nothing is disturbed.

Just get a USB3 8GB/16GB Ultra Fit (small physical size) as the USB installation drive and avoid using it as data storage/transfer drive to avoid virus transmission.

I don't use O/S installation drive as data storage/transfer, once installation done, chuck it one side hence I seldom use more than 8GB for O/S installation.

Brand and write speed doesn't really matter much since we are not using it as storage, any USB3 thumb drive can give you decent read speed as an O/S installation drive.

I only can find 64gb ultra fit , I read from amazon it seems people complaining too hot then the drive slow , got so scary or not , can advice ?

I bought 5 units of Ultra Fit 16GB from Bizgram on 22/9/2017 at $10.20 each. Also bought 1 unit of 128GB at $49, so far no issue for the 128GB.

IMHO, you don't need 64GB for O/S installation drive, 16GB is more than enough. Some peoples might like to use it as storage drive as well and place the required motherboard driver on the drive if the desktop/laptop doesn't comes with optical drive. I won't do that because when you need to use it later on, those drivers are all outdated, you probably better off update them after Windows installation. At most, I include the wired/wireless LAN driver in case Windows setup did not correctly setup the wired/wireless adapter.

There are many cases (online) of high capacity Ultra Fit suffered premature failure due to heat, the one I bought is working well although the temperature is hotter than all the other ultra Fit 16/32GB I bought previously.

thank you commach , actually I also store stuff on the move , i got voucher in lazada , so i went lazada and see , does the 64gb version have high failure rate? when i need to format i will just burn the new iso into the thumb drive and some drivers

err don use fat32 way to make win10..as now mb all support uefi already

and uefi method uses ntfs..so no limit on the size of usb thumb drive u ar using..so u can put in some stuff like softwares that u might install when installing a new system

Actually I am looking for reliable trumb drive , not those no brand one use already then connect to pc cannot detect , like dead or slow like snail that kind

8GB is more than enough, the problem is, you can't find USB 8GB drive anymore, the price is not the deciding factor here.

I preferred FAT32 for backward compatibility using it on older non UEFI system installation for SSD which you probably never have any chance of unsupported capacity for SSD as O/S drive.

Even for newer UEFI system, what are the chances you run into SSD O/S drive exceeding 2TB?

No idea man , 2TB ssd gonna cost bomb, what do you think about this Sony Flash Drive 64GB USB Type A and Micro USB USM64SA3 ?

now delete all partition , now no more fat32 become exfat , go right click format , no option for me to format to fat32 , only exfat and ntfs , how to fix this ?
