I wonder if others have found duty free shops at airports as a culprit where Amaze fails. No issues whatsoever over the past couple of months with online forex transactions, or in Europe at stores big and small. No problem at a small family bakery, a newspaper stand, a supermarket, restaurants and cafes, etc. But duty free at airports: system failure.
but did you get charged? I used it at malaysia to pay for petrol, it was charged but cashier say system fail so do it again. and tell me wait for reverse.
and my bill statement come liao. how long should i wait for it to reverse before i appeal?
its been 1 week .

Yes, I got charged (i.e. the transaction posted to Instarem and to my linked credit card) and it was reversed. It happened at two different airports. Story for both is identical:

The POS machine said that there was a system failure. It printed a receipt saying that. At the same time though, the Instarem notification said that the charge had been made. The linked credit card also sent an alert a few seconds later saying that the charge had been made.

So about 10 minutes later, I sent a photo of the system failure receipt to Instarem (through the app "Help Centre" -> "Enquiries") explaining what had happened. They responded that I should wait for the charge to be reversed. What that means is that when the duty free shop at the airport consolidates its day's sales and sends them for clearing to their bank, my failed charge will be registered as a failed transaction and not be claimed. That is what happened. About a day later, Instarem wrote to me in response to my "Enqury" in the app that the charge has been reversed. Another 12 hours later, a charge for the same EUR and SGD amounts showed in the app with a line in red saying "Payment Reversed".

My linked credit card also saw two charges: one with the debit and another with a credit for the same amount 2 days later. No SGD difference.

On the whole, I am very impressed with Instarem customer service for their prompt responses and saying what exactly to expect to happen. Touch wood, all went well.

Mine is diff... i saw the machine saying declined , then use another machine to pay, then to realised double charged.
now is already over 1 week, posted to my charge and bill statement. havent reverse. I check with instarem few days back they ask me to wait 8-14 days.

You need to wait at least 2 week for transaction not posted to reverse. This is standard duration. No matter which card you use from which bank also the same.

Amaze just did a silent nerf. No more cashback on local spending. FX spending gets InstaPoints that is subject to expiry and minimum cash-out amounts.

T&C updated 1 Jul 2022

wow, that is a hefty change indeed.
The silent nerf is indeed disappointing.
Thanks for sharing

There is still a FX/online spend use case. But Instapoints are worthless junk. Bottom line is that there is no additional cashback with Amaze anymore.

Ha ha. I received the idiotic marketing email which tries to sell this as a good thing. Treating customers as idiots is a great way to win friends and influence people. WTF.

It's time to start enjoying bigger rewards than ever before! We are supercharging our amaze cashback program and you get to enjoy all the benefits of being a loyal amazer.
>> So, what’s changing?
Enter InstaPoints! From 1st July 2022, for every SGD 1 spent in foreign currency (non-SGD), on amaze, you get 1 InstaPoint. You can keep earning InstaPoints as you spend, capped at 500 InstaPoints per transaction.
>> What are InstaPoints?
‘InstaPoints’ is our cool name for loyalty points on Instarem, and you get to choose how to redeem them! (that’s how cool they are...) Use them as discounts on your overseas money transfers, OR convert them into cashback you can spend from your amaze wallet. Your choice!
Soon you’ll be able to convert InstaPoints to additional travel rewards. Watch out for more updates from us!
>> Can I still get cashback?
Yes! You can choose to convert your accumulated InstaPoints into cashback on the app after 1st October 2022. For example: redeem 2,000 InstaPoints for SGD 20 cashback!
>> When will I receive my InstaPoints?
InstaPoints will be credited to you by the 15th of the following month after every quarter. For example, you will receive your InstaPoints for July to September FX spends by 15th October.
>> How are the rewards 'unlimited'?
Unlike the previous cashback program, there will be no limits or caps on how many InstaPoints you can earn from your amaze card! While you can collect up to 500 InstaPoints per transaction on amaze, there’s no upper limit on the number of transactions you can make on amaze. The more you spend, the more you can earn rewards!
What are you waiting for? Start loading up on InstaPoints today.

The S$500 limit per transaction is a buzzkill. Once citi excludes Amaze, it'll become a useless card.

Sadly I agree with milelion's conclusion. Even if the nerf, there is still a viable use case for Amaze CRMC (for local offline spend)
Is there a viable use case for local offline spend? For foreign offline spend, I agree the use case is still strong

Aiyo. This company quite annoying

Every quarter change terms and conditions

Way too frequent. If they continue this trend, sooner or later, will become useless card.

Amaze hinges on the edge annoying with the instant application of T&C updates. the new t&c ever edges users to use their cards on foreign txns and not encouraging local ones. once the banks start to target instarem, their only competitive edge is the saving on forex (which is jacked up behind the scenes using a invisible rate by 1~%).

This could be all along the intention. It may only enable cashback for local spending because of COVID-19.

Transaction is always posted by Amaze to your CC but it might not be posted by merchant to Amaze. That is the issue when you have a middleman. Amaze will wait for 2 weeks to see whether the transaction get posted before refund the money to you.
