Q is longer at structured hospital.
In case of emergency better got more options to include private. That's my reason for getting integrated plans to supplement medishield life.
I regretted actually not getting the rider for as charged when I was younger and healthier. Then no need to pay a cent and no exclusions. So I strongly encourage younger or still in good health folks to do so.

It's more the comfort factor really. Bad enough being sick without being stuck in some non air-conditioned class C ward with a whole bunch of other sick people getting up at all hours.

Plus, there seems to be a kind of perception that Medisave isn't ~really~ your money since it can't be used for anything else.

When you are admitted as a subsidized patient, you lose the ability to choose.
- No air-con ward.
- Cannot choose doctor.
- Always on last priority. Waiting 8 hours or more for a bed is common these days.

Many people think they will always be in control when they're admitted to hospital.

"Limpeh can always choose which hospital to go to."
"Limpeh's brother-in-law is a surgeon at SGH. I can always go to him if necessary."

The sad truth is some things are beyond your control. Imagine waking up at Mount Elizabeth Hospital after in comma for 15 days because you are hit by the roof collapse at Hilton Hotel. You won't be singing praises of Medishield Life by then.

I have handled medical claims in the thousands since I started this career. I can safely conclude that those in the lower plans often regretting saving a few cents and end up paying a bomb later.

Some experience are best learned second-hand. Ultimately you get what you paid for... and some expenses are not worth saving.

I agree partly with u. Recently i did a surgery at ng teng fong hospital and chose subsizided B2 ward. They do not have enuf beds n bumped me up to Class A single bed ward. That's by the stroke of luck. For me quality of healthcare is most important, especially quality of doctors and specialists. I do not doubt their accreditation, but of cos its the amount of time they spend on u that matters, and the type of advise they can give u. Medishield life cannot claim fully due to the deductible amount... As for integrated shield plans , the premiums get pretty costly when u age... so to say the quality of our public healthcare leaves much to be desired? N private hospital healthcare is the best? I guess world's best healthcare only applies to pte hospitals. Something is terribly wrong with our system.

Best only for pte hospitals? If you define `best` in terms of 5* hotel like service sure.

Actual care, in terms of the doctors and diagnosis, is perfectly adequate even in class C wards.

You get the amenities you pay for - personally i think what's terribly wrong is not our system, but the self entitled who expect a hospital staycation while bitching about the ptemiums to cover the upgrades.

There are some things which are not covered by Medishield Life. For example Immunotherapy. The cost can go upwards to 100k per year, and you may need to take it for as long as you want to live.

Of course i dun mean 'best' in terms of 5* hotel service. What i mean is the quality of service between private and public hospitals. Even forumners here have lamented the long waiting hours(>5hrs) at A&E to see a doctor and get admitted if necessary. Plus if there's a need to see specialist, it's even a longer wait. If u dun wanna wait long, go to pte hospital. But what if someone is poor and needs to see the doc urgently, and has some form of life threatening illness? How long wld he/she have to wait? Plus with the doctors, nurses and specialists being overstretched, the quality of care given may be compromised. I agree with u C class ward facilities are adequate.

Why is there a huge difference is the quality of service between public and private hospitals, especially of long waiting times? Why is the poor discriminated in such a way? That's wads wrong with our healthcare...

Of course many would argue that u get what u pay for, but healthcare sld not be treated as a commodity, as an economic good...

This is very true.

Been through some personal experiences and that is why I got myself a comprehensive private integrated shield plan.

I suppose experiences differ.

Only experience I had with A&E admission is when my dad had a stroke and it was pretty much seamless from ambulance to being seen by a doctor and admitted. I was pretty impressed with the CCH staff at the time though granted it was a few years back so no idea if things have gone down the drain since.

Then again, going to A&E instead of looking for a 24h clinic when I had a minor chemical burn wasn't the brightest idea i ever had and I *did* end up waiting from midnight to something like early morning. But that's triage for you.

This has gone off topic though - integrated shield and medishield life are *both* insurance ultimately. Being able to pick and choose the level of coverage is a good thing. Not an indictment of the inadequacy of "basic" coverage. That's why it's basic after all.

Hindsight bias, dude. Change that sentence to "I have heard of people striking 4D first prize and regretted not placing more bets. They often regret saving a few cents and end up being a lot less well-off later", and you will realise how your statement doesn't make sense at all.

That aside, TS please think carefully if you want to rely purely on medishield life...

Fully agreed, that's what you get when you speak to an agent.

TS, medishield life is much better than before but I still don't think it's adequate. The main purpose of such insurance is to cover the big bills in case of unfortunate events but the claim limits are too low. If you got a major sickness, it can easily be pushing the claim limits. Not to mention that with the number of old people in our population and the lack of hospital beds, B2 and below wards are usually pack to the brim. You are unlikely to get a bed in B2 and below, I would recommend you to consider at least a basic IP which is really not much more than what you are already paying for medishield life. IP only get expensive for the top end with rider.

I'm quite sure that you would see thousands upon thousands more who did not claim a single cent and often regret paying decades of premium which ultimately means nothing. Insurance is after all, using majority to pay for minority.

Do have a balance view instead of always leaning towards the insurance side.

Some experience are best learned second-hand. Ultimately you get what you paid for... and some expenses are not worth saving.

Indeed some expenses are not worth saving, having said that, don't waste it.

I am sure many agents here will be eager to process your upgrade application.

Ok but he is my good friend whom i know since secondary school as he is probably facing some personal issues so i don't intend to change agent.

Is it possible to go NTUC bras basah to do it or must go through agent?

Going to NTUC bras basah i see it as a better alternative and i always put his agent code when ever i buy insurance even without his advice

Interested in upgrading my ISP, but wats the comparisons between each? Do i need to meet an agent from each coy?

Im sure there are subtle differences. Choices leading to indecision and inaction

Sent from Sent from where? using GAGT

Can see comparison from this MOH website...NTUC is cheapest though take note of 90 days pre and post hospitalisation treatment.....others are comparable or more...

One wayi think in my opinion ( not qualified) to get around is to admit yourself within 90 days and extend it again 90 days...
