Which thread? Sorry I didn't follow.... But ya... Ditto

Here: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/h...-pro-gamer-vs-msi-b85-g43-gaming-4679994.html :)

Yup, for normal users, it doesn't matter at all. We don't even saturate 1Gbps at all....... As for the ping, its so minimal compared to external factors

We don't even have "real" 1Gbps internet in the first place. MR 1Gbps is only to haolian local speedtest and lure the uninformed majority who think that that plan gives them 1GB/s file download speeds

Here's a summary:

For the normal consumer, it doesn't matter.
For the professionals, you wouldn't even read this.

Killer nic, intel nic, whatever nic...

Your ISP uplorry your connection, you have what god nic in this world also no use.

The problem dun lie with the nic used, it's our ISP.

But then, with this killer nic, with the right type of marketing and promo, can easily sells to people who don't usually think and just whack whatever it's good.

to be fair, intel nic has saved me once from boredom

my Mobo has both intel and realtek nic
2wire router gave up on me last year on a weekend, called for replacement 2 days.

and that was the moment, the extra cash I forked out for intel nic came in handy for me. :s13:

Direct from ONT Vlan Tag 10 for the weekend :s13:

LAN is LOCAL. Nics are used in clients connecting via a router/switch.

The router and modem are the bottleneck for internet connectivity. The fastest packages typically provide up to 200mbps or 25 MB/s for local access. That's about a quarter of the rated throughput for a single LAN channel. Internet connectivity does not come into play here.

The average end user won't be able to tell the difference between nics unless they run multiple machines over a smart or managed switch. Advanced features like teaming, jumbo frames come to the fore and I'd say the pros prefer intel for nics and hp procurves for switches.

So there's no real world different between the two, especially for Gamers/users like me won't be able to feel any difference?

Read other forums saying that Intel works better as a system.
Intel NIC + intel chipset + intel cpu. True?

LOL....... you waste money...... If you have installed the network utility that came with your CD, you can activate VLAN for your realtek......

Frankly, I also prefer Intel NIC for servers. They are good and reliable. Some models have extra processors to manage network traffic as well. QoS etc......

But..... thats for servers.... I am just using a PC....... whatever NIC makes no difference to me.

Same thing for switches and routers......You can tell me how good a high end Cisco router and layer 3 switch is blah blah blah. Performance blah blah blah..... But does it make any difference to me as just a single end user?

Yes, mostly.

In terms of stability and engineering, the intel brand is one of the most reliable around. They test their products more rigorously than most. For example, compare their implementation of sandforce controllers vs ocz.

Buy intel, if you know what you're getting. Otherwise, it doesn't matter much.

The big question . Between Intel and Killer Lan, how much difference is there?
and for average home consumers, does the difference matters?

When Intel says "validated", you know it means validated plus plus. Unlike AMD and OCZ

No difference. Killer is marketed by Qualcomm to "kill gaming lag" using prioritization. Keyword marketed and gaming.

There's no other reason than that why MSI uses Killer in their Gaming series mobo. If it wasn't Killer, just another regular Broadcom/Realtek NIC would've taken its place.

lol.... not all users drill in so deep into these settings lah... don blame them... like Jumbo Frame is also just a software setting in the network utility as well.... just quoting e.g..... :o

The fact is Intel lan is way better than killer lan.

Qualcomm uses Killer lan just to market their cheap and lousy lan and bundle with some tweak software.

Why realtek didn't follow Qualcomm?
Because they know it's useless and they also believe those people who know IT won't go for killer lan but rather go for Realtek, broadcom and Intel.

You can just install 3rd party software and have the same function as killer lan.

Killer lan issue

Killer Nic dropping connection on LAN
I have a Killer Nic 2100 installed on an 1155 setup under Windows 8. I can upload large files to anywhere on my home network .. but when I pull large files off of my main computer with the Killer Nic in it .. the connection drops out on my main rig... no network connection of any kind on my main rig until I reboot ..

I don't have this problem with the onboard nic ..

sometimes the network will drop when the power flutters .. all the other computers I have will have internet connection .. but my rig won't .

I bought my M** GT 70 ONCE notebook back in May and it worked very well until, now. For some reason my Killer E2200 card will case my Windows 7 Pro x64 and Windows 8 pro x64 to give a BSOD. I have determined it is the killer nic for when i disable it,, and use the Intel Wifi, everything woks fine. Also, sometimes, my notebook does not see my Drobo 5D on the USB 3.0 port but it reds other USB devices fine including other hard drives. I think I have a problem with my motherboard or just the killer NIC

I just bought my Alienware M14 R2 on the past black Friday and the system runs ok until I met this problem: the wireless connection (I upgraded to the Killer Killer wireless-N 1202 accordding to dell's recommadation) will disconnect in about every 1-2 hours, but my other work stations works just fine.

The question to ask is are you going to game over LAN? I.e. Multiple players over the home network.

Gaming over internet has too many layers in between for a nic to make a difference.
