actually... hijack this thread a bit.

I was looking to have a sff pc with some form of graphics to be placed next to the smart tv for gaming... on my steam account. am using the xbox controller and was just exploring something small but good enough to play.

games I'm currently playing (Monster Hunter world, overcooked 2, GTA V - still catching up hahaha)

How do you guys feel about these two?

I would skip and got for mini ITX route, more expandable opportunities like upgrading of motherboard cpu and graphic card. With that kind of SFF, it's just a use and throw away scenario years later. Unlikely to have a buyer for it versus mini itx.

It depends on,
1. what games you will be playing,
2. what resolution do you intend to play,
3. how much you are willing to spend
4. What kind of graphic settings are you planning to game on, and,
5. how much space can you spare on your TV console for your computer. Minisforum tend to sell something like an NUC, but with little options for you to upgrade. So you need to manage your expectations in terms of graphical capability. The upside is that its small and easy to find a place to put on your TV console.

If you are planning to game on high quality image settings, then you need to invest in a proper ITX PC with a decent GPU. For my case, I just went for a Ryzen 5 3400G rig (only using iGPU) for some light games. I've also invested in a Xbox Series X that will be the go to system if I want to game, or use for multimedia purpose.

As long as you arent into intensive gaming you are fine!! The igpu is good even for very light gaming.

For gaming NUC.
Can slot in mini GFX card as well(up to ~8").
But mostly expensive.

If you wanted the Intel NUC route, might be wise to wait 1-2 mths for the Tigerlake NUC.

For the Ram portion will there be any performance differences between having only 8 gb vs 16 gb vs 32 gb of memory ?

This goes back to the question on what you are going to use the system for. For general websurfing, multimedia and light usage, 8GB may be sufficient. If you are planning to game on the iGPU for example, then you may want to consider 12 or 16GB because the system memory is shared with the iGPU. Even though it shows that the iGPU can reserve up to 2GB of memory, in actual fact if a game requires more memory, it may start eating outside of that 2GB that you reserved.
