Hey guys, can I check if both of them write at the same speed?

Mainly use to do screen recording. Not sure to get external USB 3.x HDD or Internal HDD

Nope, external HDD max at around 210 MB/s, internal around 260 MB/s.

edit: for WD, not sure about rest

So which means when doing screen recording, there may be lag using external HDD compare to internal HDD?

Add on to what @Koeng168 has mentioned about data transfer speed. Usb 3 external hdd spin at 5400rpm
but internal hdd has the options of 5400rpm,7200rpm and 10000rpm which help if you need high speed hdd for screen recording.

Different speed. Internal can go up to 260MB/s around there.

External should be a tad slower. However it all depends on the screen capture bitrate etc.

Screen recording? CCTV?
Internal for speed cuz external HDD depends on the PC USB port.
Usually the packaging will say up to certain speed cuz it is dependent on the PC.
Internal wise since it is SATA thus will be faster than USB.

I am considering either 4TB external or internal.

Screen recording like when you are recording your own tutorial, for example, teaching how to use photoshop, video recording etc.

IMHO.
Here are some information.

Video speed: SD memory cards for 4K video storage should at least have a V30 rating/marking meaning it has the minimum continuous write speed of 30MBs required for 4K.

Source : https://www.kingston.com/en/blog/personal-storage/choose-storage-4k

USB 3.0 max out at 5 Gbps which is equal to 625 MB/s.

My 3.5" 1TB HDD in an external HDD enclosure Write speed ( CrystalDiskMark) is about 172 MB/s.
My WD Portable HDD Write speed (CrystalDiskMark) is about 111 MB/s

P.S. I cannot test internal HDD because mine is notebook NVMe.

I think probably will go for external HDD. Cause external HDD can use on tablet/laptop while internal HDD must boot up PC in order to use

If your external HDD are those portable type, for me, the failure rate is higher.

IMHO.
Search for "usb 3.0 hdd docking station"
It is not portable.

If you really want to use a portable HDD, do ensure minimize vibration and preferable cooler temp.
woah, so big and bulky

External HDD = portable (which mean can bring anywhere)? What is external HDD that consider not portable?

Currently looking at WD My passport

If you buy external HDD just shutdown the PC before unplugging the HDD.
Cuz when PC is turn on and external HDD is connected it is still spinning.
Windows safely remove does not turn off the HDD so if you plug out a lot of time.

The HDD or rather spindle motor will fail one day so when the PC shutdown.
Power to HDD will stop and it will stop spinning than you can remove it properly and safety.

Which brand to choose depends on you.

Considering external HDD is because my internal HDD starting to fail. Some files not able to open even it's there. Tried to backup to another HDD but not able to transfer 100%.

Also means the internal HDD is always at work when it's turn on (external HDD start to work only when it's plug in)
