Hi basically am new or sort of new to this section but pardon me for my stupidity at times.

basically I need a laptop that serve the below purposes

1) School work example, microsoft office, adobe photoshop and other adobe softwares, average usage for video editing

2) mild gaming and entertainment

3) reasonable pricing for around 1k to 1.2k or cross 1.2k abit.

So hope someone can guide me along. thanks alot. Appreciated

Before u even make any laptop purchase decision, think thru:

1) Touchscreen or not? That will halve your laptop range.

2) Do u really need i7 quad core? Based on your stated usage, wad u need is more RAM (8-12GB) for your Adobe software, prob an SSD for quicker loading times. Yes, u can yearn for better specs with all four cores working at the same time when rendering, but at the expense of heat (i.e. much hotter laptop chassis)? I used a Lenovo Y580 before (i7 quad core) and my migration to Asus UX32LN (i5 dual core), shows no apparent difference in rendering times. Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro/After Effects are more RAM-hungry than CPU-hungry, so consider your CPU carefully. And considering that i7-dual core is merely i5-dual core overclocked, i5 may suit your needs better.

3) Weight. You can have the most powerful laptop for gaming and video editing, but are u willing to lug 3kg laptop + 1kg cables to sch everyday? For laptops, performance (CPU+GPU) comes at the expense of portability, since you need a heavier chassis to contain the monster within. Don't regret if you have to carry heavy loads to sch (laptop + cables + sch books).

4) Battery Life. Higher specs require more power, so battery life drains quicker. Consider that before making a purchase decision.

Based on these few points, make your choice and shortlist the laptops that fit your requirements. Then from the shortlist make the comparison. At least in this case u wun need to ask pple to throw u random laptop recommendations.

Okay if I don't need a touchscreen com. And base on ur advice on higher ram with SSD as well. What would u intro? I am really bad at comparing specs and all. So need some guidance for laptop selecting. Sorry for the trouble.
