‘Outlander’ Renewed For Final 8th Season & Prequel ‘Outlander: Blood Of My Blood’ Ordered To Series

Outlander’ is set to return for Season 7 this Summer, and picks up after the events of the season six finale, which left Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in a particularly dangerous position… (spoiler ahead)…

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’, the long-gestating prequel series, which centres on the lives and relationship of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, has been ordered for a 10-episode series as well. The new drama comes from Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis, who also serve as executive producers of the original series.

New Alien Series To Start Filming Very Soon

It’s been revealed that the new Alien series from FX is going to start filming in Thailand and in Eastern Europe in the next few months. This series is easily one of my most anticipated shows, and I cannot wait to see what creator/writer and director, Noah Hawley has in store for us.

This series is being made by FX, and it will be released on Hulu in the United States. We still don’t know officially where it’ll be released in territories where Hulu isn’t available. However, I’m pretty sure that this series will be turning up on Disney Plus STAR in most territories worldwide.

If you’re not that familiar with the name Noah Hawley, he’s the person behind shows such as Fargo and Legion, which were two incredible series. They were really well received, but they probably didn’t get the viewership they both deserved

THE NEW ALIEN SERIES IS GOING TO START FILMING VERY SOON

We still don’t know all that much about this upcoming Alien series. However, what we do know is that Sir Ridley Scott is a producer on the series. Scott directed the original 1979 Alien movie, and he then made Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.

Here’s the plot synopsis for Ridley Scott’s original classic Alien film:
In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.
One thing that we do know about this FX Alien series is that it’ll be the first in the franchise to bring the Xenomorphs to Earth. It seems as though Disney is not counting the Alien Vs Predator movies as part of the official franchise.

I can understand why they took that decision, and it also opens up the possibility of future Xenomorph and Predator crossover movies and/or TV shows. I think it’s a great idea. It just needs to be done with a lot more care than it was previously.

THE SERIES’ NEW POSTER HAS BEEN REVEALED

new-alien-series-poster.jpg

We’ve also had our first look at this new Alien series’ poster (via iHorror), and it looks very reminiscent of Ridley Scott’s original movie, which I love!

You can see the egg which the face huggers come out of before they end up attaching themselves to an unfortunate victim and proceed to impregnate their new host with a baby Xenomorph. The Xenomorph then proceeds to break its way out of the victim’s chest.

It must be the most painful experience ever and one of the worst ways to die imaginable. It’s horrific and has scared audiences since the very first movie was released back in 1979. I’m really hoping that this upcoming series is a return to form for the franchise, which has been in a pretty poor state since James Cameron’s Aliens was released.

That was the last movie in the franchise that was genuinely good. That said, there are a lot of people out there who’ve got a lot of love for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

What do you make of this news? Are you looking forward to watching this new Alien series when it’s finally released on Hulu/FX/Disney Plus STAR? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

The Witcher Creator Confirms Plans to Expand Universe

Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher saga and the story of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg and Ciri seemingly came to an end with the publication of The Lady of the Lake. The author recently confirmed, however, that while their story may be finished, the story of the Continent will continue to unfold.

As reported by Redanian Intelligence, Sapkowski spoke at the Taipei International Book Exhibitionspoke in Taiwan and was asked about future Witcher novels. He stated briefly, "They are in the plans," though he provided no further details. It should be noted that back in 2018, the author assured the story ended with The Lady of the Lake, adding, "If by any chance I write something in The Witcher universe, and I sure have such intention, it would probably be something like a prequel or a sidequel. Not a sequel."

The Witcher Novels and Adaptations

The Witcher saga proper spans five novels (translated to English by Danusia Stok and David French) including Blood of Elves, Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and The Lady of the Lake, originally published between 1994 and 1999. The saga followed two short story collections, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, published between 1992 and 1993, which provided readers with some measure of clarity regarding Geralt of Rivia's relationship with Yennefer of Vengerberg, as well as the witcher's destiny where Ciri is involved. Most recently, a standalone novel, Season of Storms, was released in 2013, exploring events taking place between the stories of The Last Wish.

The popularity of the novels led to a number of adaptations over the years, including a Polish film, titled The Hexer, and limited series adaptation whose reputation has seen somewhat of a shift since its release. While originally heavily critcized for the quality of the production and the film's confusing editing, the series that followed, which used a lot of the cut footage from the film, was better received, though still heavily criticized by Sapkowski himself. It was CD Projekt Red's video game trilogy, which expanded on the lore and ended with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is often credited with the novels' international success.

This all led to the production of Netflix's The Witcher series, which brought the franchise to mainstream popularity. However, the show has been criticized in recent months, owing to the creative liberties taken and its deviation from the source material, among other things.

The live-action adaptation has grown into an entire franchise, expanding on the history of the Continent and some of its key figures in spinoffs such as The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and the poorly-received The Witcher: Blood Origin. Sapkowski recently spoke about the show, offering only a brief comment, "I've seen better, I've seen worse."

Seasons 1 and 2 of The Witcher, as well as its numerous spinoffs, are available for streaming on Netflix.

Star Wars Hires 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' Directors for New Project (Report)

After their Oscar-winning directing effort on last year's Everything Everywhere All at Once, the Daniels are seemingly set to join Star Wars Disney+ series, Skeleton Crew.

The upcoming streaming series stars Jude Law (who fans may know from Captain Marvel) and has been described as 'Stranger Things in space.'

The project is currently in the midst of production; however, no solid release timing has been made public for the title.

Spider-Man: No Way Home's Jon Watts headlines the creative team behind Skeleton Crew, and as the series inches closer to a Disney+ debut, fans are getting more and more info coming from the show.

The Daniels Jump into Star Wars

As reported by One Take News (OTN), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the directing duo behind the Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once, will direct at least one episode of Skeleton Crew on Disney+.

The initial report has since been corroborated by The Hollywood Reporter (THR) with both THR and OTN writing that Lucasfilm declined to comment.

This news comes as Everything Everywhere All at Once won seven Oscars at the 95th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Director.

How the Daniels Will Shape Skeleton Crew

As the Daniels quickly become one of the hottest names in Hollywood, it is exciting for Lucasfilm to cash in on that goodwill and bring them in for a project.

And the directing duo must like what they have seen from Skeleton Crew because they are not ones to just jump on a project because of a name like Star Wars. Kwan and Scheinert actually turned down Disney+'s Loki when Season 1 was in development, instead choosing to work on their Multiversal masterpiece, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

But what can audiences expect from the pair's work in the galaxy far, far away? Well, surely Skeleton Crew will not be the jaunt across the Multiverse the Daniels' latest was, but there will be some common ground.

The duo's calling card has been taking these abstract and bizarre stories and bringing them down to a human level.

Whether it was using the Multiverse to tell a story about cross-generational expectations and family in Everything Everywhere, or using a farting dead man as a deep look at self-delusion and social norms in Swiss Army Man, as weird as a Daniels project can get it comes back to very human elements.

So, with the 'Stranger Things in space' vibe of Skeleton Screw, the pair will seemingly be right at home, telling a crazy sci-fi tale with this group of young teens at its core all within the Star Wars canon.

Right now there is no official release date for Skeleton Crew, but can likely be expected to hit Disney+ in either late 2023 or early 2024

“Dexter: Origins” – Prequel Series Ordered by Showtime Plus “Dexter: New Blood” Will Continue

It was rumored just last week that “Dexter” would soon return in an upcoming prequel series, and Showtime has confirmed those rumors with the Wall Street Journal this week.

Wall Street Journal reports, “The network has ordered an origin-story prequel to Dexter, a serial-killer drama that dates back to 2006. Showtime is also exploring separate spinoffs based on the back stories of compelling Dexter characters, including the Trinity Killer.”

“The origin story will be set in Dexter’s hometown of Miami, and will touch on stories of real-life serial killers of the time period,” the site’s report continues.

UPDATE: The prequel series is officially titled “Dexter: Origins.”

“Dexter: Origins” will dramatize young Dexter Morgan at the outset of his transition into the avenging serial killer he would become. Set in the Miami that was a hotbed of real serial killers of his time, the show will begin as Dexter graduates college to join Miami Metro, where he meets younger versions of many of the characters we came to know in the original show.

And, of course, the show will also focus on Dexter’s family, including a very-much-alive Harry and a very formidable, teenage Deb.

As for “Dexter: New Blood,” last year’s hit revival series, it had been reported last week that the series would not be returning for a second season. But it seems that report was incorrect.

The network has announced this afternoon that they’re also developing a new version of “Dexter: New Blood,” which depicts the ongoing emergence of Dexter’s son Harrison.

The drama focuses on Dexter’s son Harrison, who survived his tumultuous reintroduction with his father and flees to New York City where he must wrestle with his own violent nature and whether, like his father, he too is compelled to kill. “New Blood” will explore the kinds of themes and scenarios seen in the original series on Showtime but through a new lens.

“Dexter: New Blood” became the most-watched series in Showtime history last year, averaging over 8 million viewers weekly across platforms. It sounds like Showtime wants to use that success as the launching point for a full-on “Dexter” universe. Stay tuned for more.

As you may have heard last week, Showtime is soon being merged with Paramount+ across linear and streaming, with the network being rebranded to “Paramount+ with Showtime.”

Multiple 'Billions' Spinoffs in the Works at Showtime

In the wake of its merger with Paramount+, Showtime is getting into the franchise business. Its longest-running show, Billions, has four spinoffs in the works, including Millions and Trillions. Entertainment Weekly reports that Millions will be a spinoff focusing on young up-and-comers in the high-stakes world of high finance, while Trillions will reportedly be a soapier exploration of the mega-rich, akin to Dallas or Dynasty. There are also spinoffs in the works set in Miami and London; their full concepts are still in the works.

The so-called "expanded universe" approach follows the pattern of Paramount's biggest hit, Yellowstone, which has expanded its universe with the prequel series 1883 and 1923, and will soon expand further with Bass Reeves and 6666. This pivot was foreshadowed last month, when new Showtime head Chris McCarthy stated, "We have already begun conversations with our production partners about what content makes sense moving forward and which shows have franchise potential." It also follows a period of post-merger culling at Showtime, when many of the network's fledgling series, including American Gigolo and Let the Right One In, were canceled

The move comes at an interesting time for Billions, which has now become Showtime's longest-running series. Debuting in 2016, show follows the rivalry between unscrupulous hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Damien Lewis) and driven US Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti), and their continuing attempts to destroy each other - or at least it did, until Lewis departed the show following season 5. Axelrod was written out of the series, fleeing to Switzerland, and his role at his hedge fund (and in the series) was taken over by Michael Prince (Corey Stoll) in season 6, which concluded last spring. Despite this upheaval, the series has continued to be a ratings winner for Showtime, and its seventh season will debut later this year. Showtime's exploration of a galaxy of spinoffs is, of course, a further vote of confidence in the program. Billions also stars Maggie Siff, David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Asia Kate Dillon, Jeffrey DeMunn, Daniel Breaker, and Sakina Jaffrey.

The spinoff series will be executive produced by Billions co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The duo have had a production deal with Showtime since 2019.

Billions' seventh season will premiere later this year on Showtime. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.

Yellowstone's Dutton Family Tree Explained In Full

At the center of the Yellowstone universe is the Dutton family. Owners of the largest ranch in Montana and committed to family, the Dutton clan feels like a more modern version of the Targaryen family from House of the Dragon. Yellowstone's spin-offs, 1883 and 1923, both offer a more detailed look into the current seven generations of the Dutton family.

While Yellowstone has primarily centered on John Dutton III, the spin-offs have shown how the family came into power. However, the family tree is unclear regarding how the 1883 and 1923 Dutton characters are related to John III. Harrison Ford's character, who is at the center of 1923, is not a direct ancestor of Kevin Costner's character, muddying the direct lineage established with Tim McGraw's James Dutton in 1883. Two more prequels set in the 1940s and the 1960s will serve as more connective tissue to the modern-day Dutton's.

1883

James and Margaret Dutton

1883 introduces the patriarch and matriarch of the Dutton Family in James (Tim Mcgraw) and Margaret (Faith Hill). Both were involved in the Civil War on the Confederate side, with the family having origins in Tennessee. The couple had three kids; Elsa, John, and Spencer. The family originally had plans to relocate to Oregon by way of the Oregon trail until Elsa's death at the end of 1883 season 1.

Elsa Dutton

Elsa Dutton (Isabel May) is the eldest child of James and Margaret. Elsa also serves as the narrator of 1883 and among its central characters. She was a skilled horseback rider, as well as a cowgirl. She fell in love with a cowboy named Ennis and sought to wed him before he was killed. She later found another lover named Sam, who was a Comanche warrior. They planned to spend their life together after the Dutton family settled, but Elsa succumbed to wounds she received from an arrow attack.

John Dutton Sr.

John Dutton Sr. (James Badge Dale) is the namesake of Yellowstone's John Dutton and is the second child of James and Margaret. He is just a child in 1883, but is a grown man by the events of 1923. John, along with his parents, survives the treacherous route the Dutton family takes in order to settle in Montana eventually. However, John's story doesn't have a happy ending, as he is killed early on in 1923. His death causes some confusion with the Dutton family tree, as he is only shown to have one kid, Jack, with his wife Emma, calling into question who John Dutton III's father is.

Claire Dutton

Claire Dutton (Dawn Olivieri) was the sister of James Dutton and the aunt of Elsa, John, and Spencer. Claire initially started on the voyage out west with her brother. She passed away not far into the trip, as she died by suicide after bandits killed her daughter.

1923

Jacob and Cara Dutton

Portrayed by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, Jacob and Cara are the patriarch and matriarch of the Dutton family at the start of the 1923 spin-off. The two oversee the ranch after the deaths of James and Margaret. They also raise their surviving kids John Sr, and Spencer, as their own, along with John's son Jack. They have no biological children of their own and are not in the direct lineage of the current Dutton clan.

Jack Dutton

Jack Dutton is the only currently revealed son of John Sr and his wife, Emma. Jack works on the ranch under the guidance of his great-uncle Jacob. One of the series' mysteries is whether Jack is the same John II that is the father of Kevin Costner's John III. The true nature of John III's father will likely be revealed in the 1940s and 60s spin-offs currently planned.

Spencer Dutton

Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) is the youngest child of James and Margaret, having not yet been born during the 1883 timeline. In 1923, Spencer is in Africa after serving in World War I. He is currently on the way to Montana after being sent for by his aunt Cara. Spencer will likely assume a leadership role with the declining health of Jacob and the injuries to his nephew, Jack.

Yellowstone

John Dutton III

John (Kevin Costner) is the current patriarch of the Dutton family and Yellowstone's main character. Not only is he the head of the ranch, but he has also become the governor of Montana, surpassing the exploits of his predecessors. With his late wife, Evelyn, he is the father of three biological children, Lee, Beth, and Kayce, and an adopted son, Jamie.

Lee Dutton

Lee Dutton (Dave Annable) is the eldest child of John Dutton III and the first member of the 6th generation of the seven generations of the Dutton family. Lee was tragically killed in Yellowstone season 1 after a confrontation with Broken Rock Reservation members.

Beth Dutton

Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) is John Dutton III’s second child and only daughter. Beth is Rip Wheeler's wife, the ranch's current manager. She is also a shrewd businesswoman and protector of the family. Beth has a strong rivalry with her adopted brother, Jamie.

Jamie Dutton

Jamie Dutton Sr. (Wes Bentley) is a complicated family member. Jamie is the adopted son of John and Evelyn, and the biological son of Garrett Randall, who allegedly killed his birth mother. Jamie eventually kills his biological father and has an estranged relationship with John after being disinherited. This has led to an intense rivalry between Jamie and Beth. Jamie has a son with his ex-campaign manager Christina named Jamie Jr.

Kayce Dutton

Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) is the youngest child of John and Evelyn. Kayce is the new Montana Livestock Commissioner, like his father was before him. He initially had an estranged relationship with his father because he married Monica, a woman from the Broken Rock Reservation. They have since reconciled due to John wanting to be close to his grandson, Tate. Along with Tate, Kayce had another son, John IV, who died in childbirth.

Tate Dutton

Tate is the youngest biological descendant of the Dutton family. Tate is bi-racial, culminating over a century of unease between the Native Americans and the Dutton clan. It is unknown how long the Yellowstone series will last, but Tate taking over the Yellowstone Ranch would be culturally significant. Tate is currently following in the family's footsteps and learning how to be a cowboy.
