Even if do upgrade for common card also dunno need to grind how long. Lvl 7 need 200, lvl 8 need 400 cards. See youtube they open super magical chest one shot get few hundreds so can upgrade easily

Is suppose to be grindy unless of cos p2w. Need more luck element to get your cards unlike COC where you will eventually reach the max. CR is suppose to be alot more p2w than COC.

I am level 4, but I keep getting matched up against lots of level 5s and 6s.

Are these people deliberately hiding at a lower level to farm cards? I am at the babarian arena

Cos lvl 5 ones just reach arena 4 will kena hit back to 3. If no use $ need to slowly grind and lvl up some of the common troops to move up the arena

Grind the crown chest abit sian. Everytime just hope can clear one lane then x10 hopefully can get. Cos at the pt where troops are similar or lousier than the other side.

Can anyone recommend a good starting deck for me with the cards I have and how should I play it?

Currently in arena 3 and I'm only level 4. Having issues when I kept getting level 6s as opponents.

Well, it's actually rather difficult to grind up w/o lvling your account and cards lvl. Especially, 2 lvls difference.
Donate and upgrade your cards...faster reach lvl 5 1st. haha
