Don’t you guys find faceid rather impractical considering we are wearing masks almost all the time?

I use apple pay a lot for instore retail purchases. Just really glad apple still has the SE with touch id.

I dont like how apple pay has to verify your identity for payments.
I use android, google pay never need to do this.
Plus their face id can only read face when u looking at the phone, but when u paying, you wont be looking at your phone :s22::s22:

faceid is to authenticate.. after that you still have a fair amount of time (until timeout or screenlock) to bring phone to payment terminal. it's not that you have to look at phone and at the same time bring to terminal right?? :s22:

imho apple's implementation is the secure way to do it. and ideally to go around mask issue also some kind of touchid at the same time.

I realise a lot of people don’t know that they can pre-authenticate. Instead they all trying to scan their face at an awkward angle while the phone is on the terminal..

Well it was going back to Stone Age of keying in password to unlock my phone in the first couple of months of masking up. But since then I can unlock my phone when wearing a cloth mask or a nicely fitted surgical mask. My frustration towards Apple turned to appreciation and I’m now grateful for the implementation of machine learning.

Pre-authentication would still mean keying in the code and then working within the grace period to make payment?

Which is a step backwards in terms of the convenience of touch id, which is just touch and authorise payment.

Oh cool. So as long as the contours of the face are well defined with a mask on, faceid should work?

I would think so. Not sure what are the acceptable tolerances in the mapping of these contours. But one thing that we should note is, look at the screen while we are keying in the password with our mask on. Small thing but it’s essential because that’s how the phone learns the changes in our faces.

Yes I think the article shown is abit dubious. I tried for many days also can’t work.

there are two methods
1) fold mask in half - never worked for me
2) using A4 paper - worked for me >95% after 2nd try

my own experience using (2)
a) when moving your face during registration don't move the A4 paper
b) when unlocking with mask, hold phone higher (like directly in front of your face). this is key. as most of us tend to unlock with phone held much lower.
c) also I set up the with the A4 paper trick on the alternative appearance.

I can unlock with cloth/paper/white/black even very hugging mask. when i cover nose and mouth with my hand can also unlock. really cool..
only issue i have is with whatsapp.. donno why..
I have help my family members and colleagues. and ALL able to get get phone to unlock >50%. most >95%. the >50% ones are the ones with really small face/small forehead.

it is not dubious... i have personally tried and it works wonderfully!

DBS ah... DBS.... what are you doing/smoking ???!!!!

everytime i use dbs app, the phone's internet connectivity will drop off! in addition to phone heating up and battery dropping a few %
have to restart phone to get back internet connection.

just did this multiple times.. every single time start dbs app, login, check account.. logout. internet connection gone! cannot check new mail, start facebook, also stuck at loading screen (cos no internet connectivity)

maybe DBS really don't like me... why ah?? why ah??

Thanks for the clarification. I will try your A4 paper method soon. The half mask one totally don’t work.

Huh s-h-i-t I thought it's normal leh. I was sliding the edge of a paper to clean the lining on my iPhone 12 pro(I think a bit bit of the adhesive glue for my screen protector got into the very thing gap as I was trying to clear the dried up glue ha ha)Mainly next to the volume rocker. The paper could go in a little bit as shown in the video.. but the video he was using a namecard of some sort right? Which is suppose to be thicker than a normal paper.. hmmmmmmm...
