Just had a chat with an Apple Specialist online regarding MagSafe maximum charge wattage on generic Qi Charging mode. She is damn blur. Kept saying it depends on power adapter. She also made the claim that iPhone 11 can do 20W charging with 20W USB C adapter... I just wanna know whether it's 5W or 7.5W!!!

Are these staff even trained?

But a chinese youtuber used a wattage meter and it's showing up 5W charge for iPhone 8. So there's conflicting information really.

I only do wireless charging in office. So it's max 7.5W. At home i do direct 18W power brick charging with the usb-c to lightning.

Apple staff are not trained in technical aspects of the products. They only know about to the new features when products are launched.

The rest they have to learn themselves, through colleagues or even customer. Their favorite phrase is always, “Thats a good question. Let’s find out together.”

anyways it's jus between slow charging and fast charging. not that complicated~

iPhone 8 and onwards can support Qi wireless charging of up to 7.5W. Some of the old wireless chargers can only support up to 5W even though the phone itself can support up to 7.5W.

MagSafe is 15W unless it reverts to Qi Wireless charging which is 7.5W. However, Apple design the iPhone in a way that it only draws the maximum power when the phone is below 60%, after that it will charge at the lowest wattage or depending on the usage pattern.

I want to be their colleague also. But keep getting no response... Sian.
Their reply always very standard.
My issues always ended up with back up and reset so I seldom look for them anymore. Google is better. They should let me in and learn myself

I've had 40w charging on my P30p from last year, and OnePlus just put out a phone that has a 65w charger included. Meanwhile iOS users are still content using the 5w charger. There's been fast charging on iPhones since the 8, but since Apple bundled these piddly little things in their phones all the way until the regular 11, I guess fast charging on Apple never really took off?

Maybe cause most ppl are able to have full day battery and tends to charge overnight.

So not particularly concern about faster charging time.

But of course those who constantly play game, will need fast charging during day time

Yes. Because usually only the first 50% use max power. After that use lower power
