I paid $48 for my iPhone 5. My company pay for all the rest... So $28 is more than 50% than the cost of my phone...

So if u connect the $28 lightning to ur $48 iPhone 5 to charge, ur total setup value is $76, which way less than 50% than the cost of my phone. So can buy can buy...

If 3rd party cable can do exactly the same but cheaper, why not? Consumers like us drive production efficiencies and forces companies to work towards driving down cost. That's how consumerism drive the market. My money can be better spend on more value items. Since first generation iPhone, I had no problems using 3rd party cables and cheap at that as well.

Why not just use apple earbuds? Why pay $$$ for other earbuds? Are apple earbuds the only one we need to use? There are cheaper earbuds out there with better acoustic performances than the old apple ear phone that came bundled with the phone.

Your example of jaguar is not really similar. Parking and petrol are not accessories.

Well, this kind of explanation I have heard aplenty of, among those I know.

All it takes is just 1 incident. Eg. cable heats up and emit smoke, or even in a worst case scenario, short circuit the iPhone.

Above has happened to a friend who used to say the same damn thing until that 1 incident.

Anyway, it's individual's choice.

seems like plenty of stocks at suburb areas as I managed to get 1 at ARC.

Was at iStudio at Paragon the day before and was told that it will be OOS till 5 Oct islandwide... As a matter of fact, was told off quite rudely when I asked if they still have the lightning cable. Their response is "5 Oct". Was wondering how a question like "anymore lightning cable" can be equated with an answer of "5 Oct"??!? Must have failed comprehension during his earlier days... Furthermore, can claim with a smirk look that OOS islandwide till 5 Oct when everyone else here is able to still get it!

me had some poor customer experience from iStudio when I asked them on availability of SGP casing. The stuff was like what's that? I replied a casing brand. And she replied Never heard of it. I was like ... anyway, saw lightning cable at epicentre 313 somerset too..

Any idea if previous car charger "head" can be used? Cause if I unplug the cable, the lights at the "head" lights up then plug in lights is off and checked phone... Not charging...

How would 3rd party lightning cables prevent short circult without the chip to dynamically assigns the pins for reversible use? :s11:
Seems dangerous to use 3rd party ones.

That's why I am not getting 3rd party cables. The chips have not been reverse-engineered yet. Also, there is no guarantee that they will work with future Apple products if needed.

Do you mean you replace the previous 30 pin cable with the new lightning cable and plug into the car charger and it cannot charge?

Seems like the 'chip' is preventing 3rd party chargers from charging. I went online to buy the apple adapter and hopefully it will work with 3rd party chargers.

Maybe the rating for any charger must be at least 5w for it to charge? I have no problem using third party 10w charger on iPhone 5 using lightning cable

Do you know whether the chip is for regulating current, voltage and waltage? If not, no worry... You shall not use third party deaktop charger or notebook USB or third party car charger to be safe..the likely cause of short circuit or burnt is usually charger and not wiring cable

For authorised 3rd accessories maker, they need not reverse engineer anything. Apple will give them the specs.

For 'unauthorised' makers, many of them are from China and I won't be surprised if they came from the same factory that produced the 'authorised' versions.

As long as apple product is manufactured in china, anything that looks like and works like original version can happen..
