iPhone 5S refurbished sets?

Went to comcentre to change my phone. I only bought it for like 5 days. Are they giving me brand new or refurbished sets? I saw them taking out from a white box.

That is a question you should be asking the telco. Some get refurb, some get new. Your bargaining power not good enough I guess.

Apple refurbished sets are as good as brand new as they change out the defective parts together with new battery and casing.
No way you can tell that its refurbished other than the phone serial number and your original box doesn't tally.

my iphone 5 is out of warranty but I got it exchanged and they extended another 3 mths warranty, so can I still buy applecare now?

Well, it's a play of words to them. The explanation to me is that technically it is "new" because it is not a used set but rather fresh from the factory (smells new too).

What they will tell you is that "they will not give you a Retail Box" set. "Retail Box" is the thing - the one that I want. And didn't get it. ;-)

One of the Telcos told Apple their policy is give refurbs only - regardless of the number of days since it was purchased.

No. refurb set will follow the original warranty date. Your extra 3 months does not count.

Of cos i will get the brand new set. But for apple is different, cosmetic is brand new so is the battery.

Since apple only do exchanges and they do not give brand new set to exchange, then why should you be scrutinising it to see if its brand new or refurb?

If you cannot accept their exchange policy, then dont buy iphone lor.

I just couldnt understand why other consumers like to pick on such policy when they themselves choose to buy the phone in the first place.

Depend on specs and price diff. I might go for the refurb.

I exchange for a refurbished set within first week of iPhone 5s launch . So it is as good as new

Not lasting? I beg to differ. So many iphones around me are cracked and damaged, while I can pass my S2 down to my daughter after 2 years and more just by changing the battery, which is dirt cheap.

Be thankful that they always give you refurbished unit if they can? I can only say that you are easily satisfied.

And contrary to your scare mongering, My experience with Samsung Service centre here is excellent, although like yours it is anecdotal evidence. But at least it lay bare your claim that ALL other brands and models make you wait "long long".
