Settings > General > Background App Refresh > OFF
Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive > scroll down to bottom > Use Mobile Data > OFF
Settings > Safari > Preload Top Hit > OFF
Settings > Safari > Use Mobile Data > OFF
Settings > iTunes & App Store > Use Mobile Data > OFF
Turn Mail to Manual if possible too

Mine increases four times. What about yours?

Switch off 4g....any LTE phone will drain the mobile data....if you are not careful.....misconception of iphone draining data, it is true that iphone user tend to hog onto their phone and android user hog lesser, hence it seem that iphone will drain more data, because u tend to use iPhone more than any android phone

Wrong...wrong...wrong!

Both of you are deluded. It is the user who chalks up the usage.

To put it simply (take for example):

Loading 3MB of data on 3G = 30seconds
Loading 3MB of data on 4G/LTE = 10seconds

What does this mean?

It means you surf at a faster pace.

Faster pace = more and quicker browsing.

This equates to 'loading' more data because you 'load' things quicker and that means you spend more data on a faster basis.

*Aside from that, you have settings that allow for the phone to access your data while your phone is active/inactive. That's why you have configurations for one to control that passive usage.

What he mentioned is also what some people in the various forms have recommended. I also did the same and disable the data connection for certain apps which really have no needs for data connection.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6542316
agreed.

all the settings recommended are good and most users don't need them to be enabled at all times.

guess is to use the data monitoring apps to check data usage every day, see which rogue apps (which I dun think will happen on iOS, more on android) consuming data without you knowing.

seems more like an iOS 8 issue than the service provider?

i am using iP6+ too on singtel. what i do everyday or often is to check the data usage using mySingtel app.

another option you can consider for whatsapp which i find useful is to download images, audio and videos only on wifi. this can be done in WhatsApp > Settings > Chat Settings > Media Auto-Download. From there select Wi-Fi for all three items.

Facebook is another killer. I got 1.7GB in the first month for Facebook and I don't even know why. Later I read that there is a chance that iPhone will automatically connect to data if WiFi connection is bad. Since then I will disable data connection for Facebook when I'm at home.
