Since these results are inconclusive, I will just comment based on these results.
1. Apps that load videos / images use up a lot more data than just words.
2. If you have iCloud on, data is probably being used to do occasional back up of your app data.

Compression algorithm could be better BUT would affect video/image quality. Most videos on average, consume about 20-80MB of data.

No, not all suffer from this mobile data change. Was on 12GB like you and am now on 4GB. I guess I am a light user as I don't usually exceed 3~GB/month (even when on my 12GB plan).

Hello paul02,

1. Yes definitely apps loading video / images consume a whole lot more data than words i.e Mail app without photo/video attachments.

2. I do not use iCloud unless I am on Wi-Fi. In fact, I only sign in to my iCloud for backup at home.

HAHA and I'm definitely not saying that all people on 2GB/3GB/4GB are suffering. I meant people on these low cap plans, who have data usage patterns mirroring mine. Then it could be a struggle to stay within such bundled data caps.

I usually use data unless I'm near to my router. My wireless network has been rather wonky of late so it's quicker to use data. But that's another story.

Thanks all! I'll just have to weather out the rest of this month and monitor my data usage more frequently!

I just changed to 6 plus about 3 weeks ago. Been using android for the past 1 year. My 3gb data was never at risk of being exceeded till the 6 plus.
Now for 2 weeks into the cycle , I have already used almost 3gb and likely have to be charged for thur extra.
Checked with 2 of my colleague this morning who are using iPhone 6. One guy upgraded from 5s to 6 few months ago and exceeded data by 8gb when he never could finish his 3gb before.
Another exceeded every month after she changed to 6 from 4s when previously could keep within the limits quite comfortably. All 3 of us didn't change our usage patterns after changing to 6/6+.
What's happening ?

I didn't even play FB videos on wifi. Switched it off completely. Just deleted FB app and see how. Also noticed Bloomberg uses a lot of data. Just 1 day of reading some news took 11mb.

I don't think I want to disable 4g. Why buy a Ferrari and drive it like a 1litre car ?

I find the Facebook app to be a big drain on both data usage and battery life. I've deleted it and access FB through browser instead.
