i think unlocking the phone is not the main issue. as a concurrent user of both iphones and non-pro ipads, it’s all the in-app authentications that are troublesome when it comes to TouchID vs FaceID.

If only Apple can implement something like what Google did for the Pixel phones - fingerprint sensor + face unlock that's secure enough even for banking apps.

You may be over thinking. Unlocking apps using touch id is easy simple. I have to unlock all the time on the zf8. The finger holding the phone is already in place to touch. Dun even need to press, just touch. Faceid has the annoying animation that takes 0.5s. Touch id is immediate. Haha

Face unlock is not as secure as faceid and touchid. Even my f8 dun allow face unlock for critical appa like banking apps, singpass etc.

you may be under thinking.. it takes an additional action (and time) to place your finger on the scanner before the transaction or app gets authenticated, whereas for faceid it’s seemless. since you earlier mentioned that FaceID requires an additional step to slide up to get to the home screen, then shouldn’t this additional action for TouchID be a drawback worth mentioning as well?

idk if you use apple devices with both TouchID and FaceID concurrently (you sound like you don’t), but the difference between the two and is quite obvious. not so much for when you are reaching for your device to unlock it or authenticating for apple pay. but more when using it for apps when your thumbs are naturally on the screen.

For payment, I prefer Touch ID cos sometimes the position of the card machine is placed in a position where my face can’t be easily recognized by the iphone. But unlocking the iphone via Face ID is more convenient in most situations.

TouchID is good. I dunno why people keep harping on missing faceid. After one uses touchid they will find that they r not missing anything. Faceid still need to swipe up to unlock. Touchid can use in the pocket and immediately can use it when the phone is in front of you.
