i think everyone took resolution on mobile devices at face value.

mobile device is not TV. TV max 720p means max 720p.

mobile devices can stream and downscale. like PC liddat. your PC screen not 4k doesn't mean you can't stream 4k.


you see there's options to stream 4k even though your PC screen only 1080p.

I think I get what you mean now. YouTube used to limit the resolution option for some phones to 720p. Few years ago they increased to 1080p. If we choose a 4K video in Youtube it will max the option to 1080p. I guess we need XR user to confirm.

I don't have a XR but I have the Note 9. Reduced resolution to 720p, I can't watch the video beyond that resolution.

Switching back to Quad resolution, the option to watch 1440 appears under quality in YouTube.

I just tried to stream a 4K video on YouTube - capped at 1080p. non biggie for me; I can't tell the difference lol

Hhahah my wife won't complain much. But she did notice there's diff in the display. She using 7+
