I had this with my XS Max, the Apple Store @ Orchard swapped the set without questions. TrueTone off, Night Shift off but the whites still looked yellow.

It was quite minor though. I kinda liked it, actually, but YouTube videos looked off.

Good, was fortunate enough to receive a unit without the 'chargegate' problem. But generally, the OLED screens on the iPhones look warmer than the cheap panels on Android phones, especially those budget LCD ones from Chinese brands.

For example, my LeEco Le Pro 3 looks super blue next to my iPhone.

Next to my U2417H though, which is factory calibrated, the colors look as they should.

For me, since I pre-ordered from Apple Store Online, how it actually worked is that I 'returned' the previous phone as part of the 14-day window, together with full box and all accessories, and 'bought' a brand new sealed set with all accessories.

But it also means that they double charged my card until the refund comes in. But my warranty date resets to the new date of purchase, my AppleCare+ follows along, and I get a new 14-day return window.

As for the appointment, I actually called in first to ask for a new set based off this problem first, and the service hotline emailed me a case ID which I gave to the assistant to expedite the return of the previous phone. They told me no need appointment, just walk in and exchange.

But I've read in the other chats that telco sets will be replaced by the XS Max that comes in plain white box. Those may be refurbished. So take this only as guidance if you've bought off Apple Online or from Apple Orchard Road.

Is it me or the phone? I keep noticing a yellow gradient when I tilt. Read out there some say it’s norm due to OLED, some say due to either Samsung or LG manaufacturing the OLED.

The news for LG manufacturing OLED displays for Apple only broke on Sept 14, and even then they said that LG 'just passed' QC checks with Apple, so if I'm not mistaken, all initial launch units should have Samsung panels.

There is a very slight green-yellow shift on my XS Max when I tilt it at certain (about 45 degree) angles. I think it's due to the pentile matrix used on the display.

I don’t think your is new also leh.. they will seal back those return and exchange for you which look like new.. think again if all exchange within 14 days where will the stock be? They just swop with u on those return...

Got my iphone and checked against the store display set, the screen on display set turn white when true tone is on and turn blueish if off, unlike mine, it gets more yellowish when turned on, still warm with it turn off though

Yellow or blue depends on individual but I think Apple has the colour measurement tool..

I just put both phone side by side, it is very obvious lol, would like a cooler screen tho.

I've returned 3 XSes and decide to wait out for a month or so.
Slight yellowish warm screens on all. True Tone/Night Shift disabled.
Contrast is weak, blacks are not as black on iPhone 7's LCD.

Yes, I know many would say that XSes are calibrated to be more warm, they are all made this way, etc, and we will never find one that is the same as X.

But if you go to the shops and compare, there are indeed some with cooler screens, all settings at the same. So the issue here is the wide variances across the units.

The Color Shift setting is not a solution as it applies an colour filter to the screen, not adjusting white point.

The Apple Store staff who attended to me agreed that the 3 sets we opened are all slightly warm. He'd be happy to allow me to open more boxes. But I told him, na, it's not so nice, I'll just get a refund and come back a month or so later.

For those who got their phones and are happy with the slightly warm screens if you believed they are all made this way, great. I'd accept it (or go for a different phone model) if they are all made this way, and not to my liking.

The fact that there is a wide variance out there means Apple's QC isn't that strict and allowed for screens with different temperatures to pass.

AMOLED screens are mostly luck draw but a very small percentage are bad screens

In fact I can also believe Apple boost the warm colours to match the rate it wears out with the blue pixels which dies the fastest.

Side note you can actually tweak the screens.

Visit your Settings App > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Color Filters
Tap Color Tint and verify it’s checked
Navigate to the HUE slider and move it left or right until you reach your desired screen look
The adjust the INTENSITY slider left or right to suit your preference

If Apple changed the white point across all screens then it’s either a “like it or don’t buy it”. What’s the issue now is that there is a seemingly wide variance. Those 10 over sets in Apple Orchard, most are cooler than mine.

And the color filter setting doesn’t work for me as it just applies a tint to the screen, affecting contrast.

For now, I’m sticking to my iPhone 7. Wait out a bit and decide to upgrade to XS or not.

Yes I used this to 'correct' this but it is a work around rather than solution cos I'm not able to tune to true white. Compare with note 9 their amoled side by side, their white is really white

No wonder my XS Max got yellowish when its in the dark.

Happened to have my iXS Max and iX side by side earlier on before I noticed the yellowish screen! I've been thinking the past 2 days that the former's screen just happened to be set to lower brightness and didn't think of checking.

Now that I came in to read then I realized.
