Hi! Those on SingTel telco mobile, how do you enable ipv6?
(I am on postpaid plan for a long while now)

I tested on my iPhone, it is still showing ipv4 only.
I contacted the cso via whatsapp chat, really CMI. She even asked me what is ipv6? Then mentioned some weird dual stack thing as the answer among others. Like the CSO don't understand simple English: Please enable ipv6 on my mobile. Even pointed me to a guide how to turn on ipv6 at the OS level (basically a Windows guide lmao)

I gave up with contacting the human cso. Can just go down shop and enable?

My home network is OK, coz internet is by M1 and router is Asus AX86U Pro. My private DNS (NextDNS) also OK, it is ipv6 ready.

Thanks all!

No need to ask SingTel. If you have 5G SA mobile connection, IPv6 should work.
(But recently even 5G SA may have problems with IPv6).

If you are using 4G, no IPv6. Same for 5G NSA.

Ah? Strange.. I enabled 5G SA for a while, still cannot get ipv6.
5G Standalone is also ON.

I try try again.. Still no luck on my end. Thanks for your reply!

Actually noticed i haven't been getting IPv6 in quite a while on 5G SA.

I think iOS don't have this setting. It is auto; can't choose the protocol. If I am wrong, do let me know. Thanks for responding, too! Nvm, at home my own wifi can work can liao.
You need to use the "apple configurator" application to create a custom APN profile and load it onto your device. Then you can enable v6.
The UI on the phone doesn't provide the option to choose protocol.

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/apple-configurator

For ipv6 over 4g on singtel you need to call them and ask for it to be enabled. You need to be lucky to get escalated to the right people, as most of the agents will have no idea about it. You can also try their feedback@ email address and cite the imda "no islanding" principle from 2012. You can also mention all the IPv6-only services that you're unable to access, eg the list here: https://www.ev6.net/v6sites.php

If you use a tool that shows your interface information you will see you usually have two PDP interfaces on most phones - the first one is your mobile data, and the second is used for VoLTE. The VoLTE interface (if enabled) will be IPv6-only but it won't route other traffic.

Supposedly you can get v6 by default on 5G SA, but just because it says "5G" at the top of the screen doesn't indicate if its SA or NSA. If you're in an area/building which causes you to connect to 4G or NSA then you wouldn't get v6 unless they've manually enabled it for you.
You can get such info from the field test app on ios:

Field Test Mode for iPhones. Accessing Field Test Mode on an iPhone can be quite straightforward: simply go to your phone's dialer, type in *3001#12345#* and hit the dial button. You will need to update your iOS to latest version, iOS 18.

Side info, FYI only: I finally managed to reach deep into the Singtel support.
After some time, this is the final answer provided: Copy and paste --> "Apologies but we can only provide IPV6 to broadband services."

There you go.. my mystery solved. Maybe it works on Android phones, coz there is a setting to force IPV6.

Untrue, you just spoke to someone who isn't aware of how to do it...

Try their feedback@ email and quote the imda rule from 2012:
https://www.imda.gov.sg/~/media/imd...noislandingprinciple/intpronoislprinciple.pdf

on iOS you need to create a profile with the apple configurator because their default profile limits you to legacy ip, but it still needs to be enabled at the backend too.

dear expert out there,

i have a singtel wifi router, https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont/singtel-mesh-guide
this model, i see an IPv6 menu item when log in, but it cannot be clicked or managed.

is there a way to make this router a ipv6-supported wifi router?

thanks

Are you using Singtel ONT or ONR?

If used with Singtel ONT, it functions as a router, IPv6 settings should be there. Last time I had tried it with Singtel 6rd IPv6 and it worked fine.

If used with Singtel ONR, it will function automatically as an AP and no IPv6 settings will be available.

If used with other ISP's ONT, it will not work at all since the built-in Singtel VLAN cannot be disabled.

If used behind other ISP's ONR, or behind another router, it will function automatically as an AP and no IPv6 settings will be available.

I'm on singtel 1G BB plan, already got another singtel wifi6 router when renew the contract; the one i mentioned earlier is from the last contract ended.

My GPON gateway is ZTE F620, it is an ONR, the wifi router works as an AP; in any case, i couldn't find ipv6 setting in ZTE box.

I just would like to enable ipv6 on the router.

Singtel ONR will be the main router of your home network.

You have to set up 6rd IPv6 on the ZTE F620 ONR (if it supports such settings). Then the wireless client of the Singtel WiFi 6 router (automatically run in AP mode) or Singtel Mesh router (automatically run in AP mode) will have IPv6.

If there is no such settings on the ZTE ONR, or you want to use native Singtel IPv6, you have to contact Singtel to enable native IPv6 on the ONR. As a SIngtel ONR user, you cannot set up Singtel native IPv6 by your own. Singtel backend has to enable it first.

I have gone though such process last year. You can check out this thread.

No place to config 6rd in the ZTE box, even though there is a tab named "6rd", no settings are found there.
(how do i insert a sceen capture in this forum?)

from your reply, it sounds that ipv6 settings are shown or configureable only when upstream ONR/gateway supports ipv6.

in fact, i'm looking for way to login to this wifi router(probably wifi5) with some 'superuser' account, to enable ipv6 manually myself.

i have a 4G router, getting ipv6 addresses, and i hope to connect singtel's router to it and turn on the ipv6 features too.

(just don't know how to upload some pictures to give a better idea)

So this has nothing to do with SingTel ONR, since you have a 4G router which can get IPv6 and want to connect your SingTel Mesh Router to it to have better coverage, right?

If your 4G router has a LAN port, just connect SingTel Mesh Router WAN port to it, no need to configure anything, it should automatically run in AP mode and IPv6 should just work for the wired and wireless clients of the SingTel Mesh Router.

In AP mode, SingTel Mesh Router will just passes through IPv6 from the main router (your 4G router) to the wired and wireless wireless clients.

If your 4G router does not have a LAN port, then you can forget about it already.

BTW, you do not have enough post count to be able to post URL link to an image, but you can upload the image to site like IMGUR and then describe the link in plain text so that others can access the image.

Is that ZTE device operating as a router or is it bridged?
If it's bridged then you can ignore it, if it's routed you'll need to get singtel to enable ipv6 for you.

What is the router on which you have working v6? What address assignments are you getting? If it's from singtel then the address will start 2400:d803: if you're using 6rd, 2400:d802: if using native.
Is this router connected behind the ZTE device?

Some of the singtel routers (eg the old AC+) actually block IPv6 even in AP mode.

I'm guessing you have your other router connected behind the ZTE, and the router is getting IPv6 on its WAN interface from the ZTE but is unable to assign v6 addresses to clients connected behind the router?

The singtel router is from the last contract, it supports wifi5.

I have a 4G router, getting ipv6 address from the operator, I connect a windows pc to its LAN port, the windows NIC gets a public ipv6 address too, pingable from outside when windows firewall enables icmp.
however, when i connect this singtel router, there is no public ipv6 address from its LAN/wifi port client, all starts with fe08... private ipv6, so my guess is i need to use 'superuser' login id (which i don't know if calling singtel hotline will get it) to enable ipv6 on it manually; otherwise, the menu item is just greyed out.
