Roomba DIY replacement battery packs (and VPOST)

*Sigh*

Tried to order a DIY 3300mah replacement battery pack for my Roomba via www.batteryspace.com, and to get it shipped via VPOSTUSA.

VPOST sent me a mail saying that they can't ship the batteries because of security restrictions. The fine print now says that "all batteries" cannot be shipped :( . Fortunately, batteryspace was kind enough to cancel my order.

So... How do you guys rebuild your battery packs? Has anyone tried getting the battery shops at Sim Lim (Tower or Square) to replace them? How did it go? How much?

Cheers,
KangKeng

Suggestion to those intending to purchase batteries for yr Roomba / Scooba, purchase from merchants who are willing to ship direct to Sg via US Postal Service. Dont bother with DIY batt rebuilding by purchasing the cells locally, its going to cost u the same or more, in addition to the hassle and time spent.

alien77, its a chance u r taking with yr Scooba 380 w/ spare battery. In case Vpost rejects, it'll be $$$ down the drain. Try scouting around ebay for yr batteries instead. U can however take a calculated risk if the merchant is willing to place the extra batt inside the 380 package.

Sent them performa invoice instead. Maybe you can write the product as scooba replenish set or something. :o

Offer until 1pm SG time tomorrow or until soldout !!!!!!

woot.com don't accept sg cards, but we can pay by paypal, then shipped to vpostusa or comgateway.

Last time my vpost shipping to sg for roomba was abt SG$50 after 10% discount.

Now with 13% discount code maybe even cheaper. :s7:

Yes, it's the same model as discover in irobot.com.sg, except colour is different. :s22:

thanks for the fast reply.
do you think that the Scheduler Remote is important?
maybe i can start it to do the cleaning before i leave my house everyday. and let it clean the house.
when the batt is flat, it will auto return back to the base station to charge ? after charging, it will continue cleaning the remaining of the place that it had not clean ?

If you need roomba to be more automatic and run around by its own, then get Scheduler Remote.

Yah, everyday I will leave my scooba running when I leave the house in the morning, can do that with roomba also.

Roomba will auto-return to base station when battery is low, but i have not tried that function.

My roomba was under-utilised, usually use to vacuum leaves in the balcony and base station is in the living room, while my scooba was over-untilised until the wheel wear-off. :s22:

I don't think roomba will remember the places that have not cleaned. :o

oh.. ok
and lastly the step down transformer. i read thru the old post and saw people using Newstar stepdown transformer from homefix. Does anyone know if it is available in Sim Lim tower? and the cost of it? and which shop if anyone had bought their from them.

What does the transformer look like? i mean the side of the transformer.
does it look like a normal US power socket. so that i can just plug in the US head of the Roomba power socket into the transformer?

Yes, the transformer is available in Sim Lim Tower. Some had mentioned before, abt $21-22.

Which shop in SLT I am not sure, because I bought all at Home-Fix. :o

The side socket pic below.

The shop i found with the widest selection of step down transformers is 3rd floor SLT, directly in front of escalator. Has a no of stuff lying on the floor in front of shop. Take yr pick among Newstar, Super, etc. IMO, get the Super 120W... value 4 money.. auto 240V->110V/110V->240V plus all the necessary thermal overload cut-off and soft-reset button.

actually quite true. :s22:
1. You personally own 3 or more Roombas.

2. You name your Roombas.

3. You refer to your Roomba(s) as He/She.

4. When “He/She” gets stuck and you say, “awww Roomba”.

5. When “He/She” chews up a rug/shoelace/or other object and you say, “Bad Roomba!”

6. You cannot let Roomba clean more than once without cleaning Roomba!

7. You have a fraction of your budget set aside for Roomba upkeep/maintenance.

8. The Roomba actually costs you time instead of saving you time because you cannot stop watching it.

9. You know the next pattern/turn Roomba will make WHILE you watch it.

10. You start telling your friends about Roomba… and try to sell them one.

11. When Roomba is charging and you look at the pulsing orange light as “His/Her” heartbeat.

12. You enjoy taking apart/tinkering/modifying/shimming/and upgrading Roomba in every possible aspect of its performance.

13. You comb and scavenge Ebay/HSN/Buy.com/Costco/Craig’s List/BBB/LNT/and iRobot.com for the BEST possible deals on ANY Roomba or Roomba package.

14. You spend at least 1 hour or more per day reading postings(like this) on RoombaReview.

15. You own Stock in iRobot.

16. You know a few of the Customer Service Reps at iRobot by name.

17. A few of the Customer Support Reps at iRobot know YOU by name.

18. You now enjoy every opportunity you (Roomba) get to “Clean/Vacuum” the house.

19. You have posted 100 comments on RoombaReview and you go from being a “Roomba Lover” to a “Roomba Addict”.

20. You laughed at 15 or more of these Roomba related addictions because they are true of YOU.

How does irobot compare with Straaten Robovac. its selling for S$199 with 1 yr local warranty. I saw the demo and it picks up dirt very well. At that price, it comes with a home charging base and remote too!
