Brief review on scooba 380

'

Battery Life
last for about 2hrs during cleaning.
water ran out for 2 times.

Noise
quite noisy, as loud as a washing machine dry spinning cycle.
I could not hear the TV.

Speed
have not use roomba or scooba 5800 before.
but 1 cycle/round in the bedroom is 15-20mins.

Wetness
floor is quite wet after cleaning, like those mopping machine used in shopping centres

Cleaniness
this is the best part.
my every tiles is separated by cement. So after living there for more than 25 yrs, it is black.
after scooba goes over it, so surprising, it become white~!

Virtual Wall
don't know how to use it, thought only beam 1 straight line.
I place it at the balcony entrance and scooba trap inside bedroom cleaning again & again.
I have test again this morning and it seems to have a clearance of 30-60cm.

Clorox solution
only use 3/4 of recommended. Hate the smell, like bleach in swimming pool.

I saw some green cables behind the all these components, I don't know how to remove the board cos it is very tight. If not, I will take some photos of those cables.

You see the blue varistor on the left...in the link you guys shown, it suppose to be removed. In my charger, it is still there. V different. I suspect the frequency here is diff from those guys in europe...

I can't see the varistor value, but i'm sure they would have changed that too, should be changed to a higher rating. I think original is 175VAC. Supposibly they should either change it or remove it.. remove it means no protection from voltage spikes

I think some people in other forums recommend to change the fuse too, although seems they didn't

actually the refilling water and cleaning after use of the scooba quite clumsy.

though it has not break as the plastic material is quite hard and thick.

Seems your model no is the same as what was shown in forums of europeans.. gotta think back to electronic classes why the 47uF doesn't blow when you replace only the 1000uF cap

Dont need to think loh... the following will show why:

"3) Mod for Scooba power supply (model number 13143)
Step 1: The Scooba power supply is very similar to Roomba one, but more powerful. It is a standard switching power supply, based on the TopSwitch Top246Y chip. The whole power supply circuit it’s already designed for universal 110V-230V usage, except for the input capacitor after the rectifying diodes, which is a 100uF @ 200V electrolytic.
The 200V rating is fine for 110V mains, but will surely blow if used at 220V mains. So you need just to replaced it with a 100uF @ 400V (you need at least a 360Volts capacitor when rectifying 220V mains). In the picture the capacitor has been replaced with a 450V one (everything more than 400V is fine)."

I never replaced it...it came with my sage. I think gk mod it. not too sure if they change any other components, but i saw some green cables behind the board. I am not sure what is all this man...i m quite worry that it will shock me...400v...

2. to be safer.. add varistor with higher voltage rating for protection against surges
3. to be even safer.. change fuse to one that is 1.6A to further protect against over current

Worst case the roomba power supply is dead.. Will just buy a normal power supply, 22V (33W) for roomba or 45W for scooba.

This, i read fr somewhere (can't remember which link) that is a NO NO. The reason is the scooba charger is specifically designed to interact with the scooba. There is some feedback between the 2 which other charger cant do. Remember: this machine is a robot, it shld be more intelligent than the normal home appliances.

This might be old news for some.. but seems iRobot is releasing some new roomba's in September.

There were many interesting details to this leak:

- MSRP will be a bit higher than previous Roombas (~15% more)
- "Lighthouse" technology implemented, this will help roomba "know" were he cleaned.
- More resistant/reliable parts used.
- New design
- Longer battery life
- Possible future self 'cleaning' station ready (similar to Karcher's idea)
- Self activated VWU when Roomba is cleaning.

Can't wait for it to be released
