hi kangkeng, I believe if it's a 4 room flat size, it's still possible to clean at one go if you are using a 5th gen roomba. The batt life is longer compared to the previous generation.

As for the point of even cleaning across the entire house, the 5th gen machines from 535 up, that makes use of Lighthouse technology could be the answer, as it is suppose to make it clean a room properly b4 moving to another.

Having said that, I do agree with you, I also tend to clean the house in 2 pass, by creating zones for 2 diff time to achieve a cleaner effect, even though the batt in my 535 is more than enuff to run the entire house at one go and generally, it is clean enuff just by using one pass.

Finally tried my remanufactured Scooba after the 16 hours charge. It worked well with the Clorox. But I found that it is actually a remanufactured 5900 instead of a 5800. It has the service code display number instead of just the service light in the 5800 and 3XX series. Haiz. Guess it is not possible for me to use plain water for cleaning. I bought Kiwi Kleen as suggested by some users here. Will try it tomorrow. How much do it use it? I remembered it was 2 or 3 teaspoon, right? Is that very little compared to Clorox needed? Hope that it will work as so little Clorox is provided and I do not like the smell of vinegar.

chongwee how's the scooba so far? I'm thinking of getting similar from Amazon. Remanufactured 5900 what's the difference between this and the 5800? In fact i thought the 5900 had a longer batt than 5800?

Does it look in any way 'remanufactured'? :)

Indeed, the new Lighthouse technology looks like a great improvement at handling multiple rooms... Now, if I can only convince the wife that we need yet another Roomba in the house... :D

Does it look in any way 'remanufactured'? :)

I had tried my remanufactured 5900 a few times already. It looked like new but since it is a 5900, it cannot use plain tap water. It would not start. I tried with Kiwi Kleen as someone reported that it works but it did not work on mine. Maybe the person used it on a 5800. I tried 1.5 Oz of Ajax Fabuloso (Aple Fresh), using the iRobot measuring cup for Clorox, with a full tank and it worked. Someone also claimed that Kao Magiclean works. Maybe I will try that when my Ajax runs out.

It was reported by iRobot that the 5900 can last longer in terms of battery life and can cover 500 sqft as compared to a 5800 which can cover 250 sqft but users never thought so. (500 sqft is doing 2 cycles on 1 charge.) They think it is just a ploy for iRobot to get rid of their old 5900. It is true that I can get 2 cleaning cycles from one charge from my 5900. I do not know if 5800 does that. But some people say that doing more than 1 cycle per charge is not good for the battery (I do not know if that is for the 5900, 5800 or both). At the end, I will still recommend a 5800. Since it is always a good to have the option to use just plain tap water.

Ordering from Amazon for a remanufactured set could be a kind of gamble. You may never know whether you will get a 5800 or 5900 till it reach you here in Singapore. Although their website claim that the remanufactured set is a 5800, I got a 5900. I could have returned it and insist Amazon to send me a remanufactured 5800 but shipping all the way back is just not worth it. I think what Mosmos suggest on getting it from LNT is a really good price for a new one. But the shipping to vPost USA is not free from LNT though. I dunno how much it is.

Someone mentioned Buy.com. I did buy something from them early this year with Google Checkout and it worked. Like Amazon, they usually have free shipping to USA.

All in all, I still love clean house without the need for cleaning it ourselves.

Ya, my order through google checkout was cancelled by buy.com. I emailed the support site and was told that buy.com will not accept any order placed using ip address outside usa. There seems to be no other option to purchase through buy.com directly now.

That is sad to hear. I manage to order an iPod accessory from them beginning of this year with Google Checkout. Buy.com sometimes have really good deals. But if they do not accept our Credir Cards, it is really sad. Haiz. Why these people got money dun wan to earn. Too many overseas credit cards frauds lately?

chongwee thanks for the detailed update on your scooba. Sounds like a good deal. Does Ajax Fabuloso foam a lot or same as Scooba juice? If it works well I dun mind, jus pour some in and go, not sure if the 5900 detects a certain level of solution before allowing it to go. Do u leave your Scooba plugged in to charge all the time?

One thing I'm not sure of the 5800 from LNT is the charging update thing. Getting some Scooba update from iRobot will be a pain. Remanufactured seems to have fixed the battery charging problems.

I think it will work but you will need to review the payment password to that person. I am thinking if we could trick the site with anonymous proxy based in usa. Not sure if some expert can try out and advise? Thanks

I would think that the Ajax foam slightly more than the Clorox but I have no way to measure it. It seems to work ok so far. I use the same amount as I would for the Clorox. I leave my Scooba plugged in all the time as it has a serial number of PRR05999070612XXXXXXX. I gues that means it was (re)manufactured on 12 June 2007. iRobot claims that all Scooba (both 5800 and 5900) are 'fixed' after some time from Sep 2006 (I can't remember the exact date, you may check it on iRobot's website). Therefore I just leave mine plugged in. No problems so far. Hope that my self-modified charger block will last a long time too.
