Auto virtual wall - a barrier which blocks Roomba permanently, "always on" design
Compact virtual wall - same as above but need to manually on, auto off after 2 hrs
Lighthouse - optional switch to Virtual wall mode which is permanent barrier, or switch to Lighthouse mode which makes Roomba clean 1st area ~30 mins, then let it pass to 2nd area to clean ~30 mins, so on. A classic 560 feature using wireless RF, but iRobot removed this feature probably for cost cutting.

considering between a scooba and roomba... and need to get CFO approval 1st...

can someone enlighten me:

1) can use scooba for vaccuming only?

2) can use scooba to suck up water spills from the floor?

Roomba is a lazy person's thing since u only need to do simple stuff like empty dust bin & check brush for coiled hair.
Scooba requires more human involvement since u need to change water, but floor will be amazingly clean & germ-free.

1) Scooba 4 cleaning stages work simultaneously, 1st stage being light vacuuming.
U can't do just dry vacuum with Scooba, it also doesn't do auto docking self-charging, u have to plug-in to charge.

2) Yes, Scooba sucks up spills, if it's big puddle, u can use virtual wall to confine it to that puddle area, so that it'll go back & forth there.

PM me too. I'm considering getting a Scooba myself as well. Thanks.

If you do not own a Roomba currently, I wouldn't really recommend to get a Scooba. It may disappoint you more than it excite you with the NOISE, capability and automobility as compared to it's vacuum sibling.

Scooba is louder than Roomba cos it needs to suck water. Just like Neato which boasts powerful vacuum, it naturally will be loud.

I do find it amusing when people expect quiet, powerful vacuum & fully autonomous for a messy house that one would tidy up during manual mopping.

All these contradicting expectations can't co-exist.

BTW, my first robotic vacuum was V-bot, a simple design with no awareness of floor size, layout, no bottom brushes, just a powerful vacuum & micro fibre paper behind.
The fact that the vacuum motor drains power ~2x of Roomba (despite moving much slower), the battery died within 7-8 mths. RC hobbyist will know that only top quality cells can survive sustained high current drain.

Somehow or rather I will have to agree with maxuum that roomba is more capable than scooba in a way. Noise level is still good as compared to conventional vacuum.

Scooba may seems a complete solution having a prep vacuum and mop at the same time, however you might not want to run just scooba alone as hair tends to gets into the tank posing problems in the later stage.

Roomba will seem to be a more complete solution in daily maintenance and scooba to compliment it.

Given a choice between them, I'll go for roomba. Both having the same AWARE technology, roomba will seem to navigate better than scooba.

When we say mop, we're talking abt a moist "something", eg. conventional mop & bucket, micro fibre cloth like what 3M Scotch Brite has, or just wet disposable paper like what Magiclean has.
So i always make it a point to remind, Scooba is a Floor Washing robot.

Has anyone ever tried dark soy sauce + Scooba, Scooba will wash away that mess. Try using Mint to "wipe" the mess, the moist cloth will be spreading it everywhere.

To date, no other company has been able to replicate Scooba, there's just too much R&D.

So i choose to appreciate what Scooba can do, rather than nitpick why it can't be whisper quiet & remain as perfect as day 1 without any maintenance, just like cars! Wait a min... cars also get gradually noisier & requires regular servicing.

That is pretty true, scooba is great but I think you have to run a vacuum first before running it on a floor full of debris that's why I say roomba is still great for daily maintenance especially it requires less interference. Scooba would be a great compliment to it but if I were to choose only one............

- Likely to be similar to NEATO Robotics laser tracking robot mechanism?
Should be on the 6th Jan CES show (US date)
