I wouldnt recommend consolidating orders becos each unit just slightly exceeded the GST threshold. One pc may be able to get away with it but 2pcs confirm have to pay GST. U can always register for a comgateway or vpost account.

Neato's boundary markers are magnetic strips which are laid across the floor. I believe magnetic strips purchasable from DIY shops will work too.

I already have conceptual design to make Roomba respond same way to magnetic strip, but it's low priority so never get down to it.

Coming back to Neato, since it was designed to be block by magnetic strips, it will not respond to Virtual Wall from any brand (yes... there are other non-iRobot brands that use virtual walls too).
iRobot virtual walls have frequency specifically tuned to the model, so sometimes they're interchangeable but not always.

I believe Neato didn't make virtual wall cos the laser would interfere.

DIY shops include Home Fix, Daiso & some neighbourhood ABC shops.
They're sold rolled up, can cut using scissors or wire cutter.

Since the scanning laser turret is right on top, the area mapping is, as u say, above a certain height. Bumper sensor will handle low obstacles.

The trade-off of high power vacuum is: a) noise level, b) battery strain -> shorter battery lifespan

a) Loud noise can actually be reduced/eliminated using Noise-Cancellation technology, just like Noise Cancellation headphones used on flights, or Audiophile Speaker run-in. Both using concept of inverse sound waves.
So in theory, it is possible to build super power vacuum that is silent.

b) Neato battery is 2 separate pieces, so there's a possibility that it's designed to have both batteries supply current in parallel, which would reduce strain per battery hence cheaper battery can be used without much battery damage. Or... it could just be for L/R weight balance.

Tekster is right that iRobot thread should talk iRobot things, but to be absolute, this thread is iRobot Scooba thread, and it has branched into Roomba 400 & 500 series thread long ago.

We could also start "iRobot vs Other brand" thread, which would alleviate the frequent lament by aspiring new users "I've read 100+ pages and gave up...".

So I guess starting new thread requires a moderator who decides when a bud has grown into a tree, and needs its own plot of land for further growth.
