Is 10 gbps internet useless?

The main advantage if you have full 10g is better latency.

The native clock is far more granular than with 1g, which in turn means quite a bit lower latency.

The discussion gets quite a bit more technical, so I'm putting it in excessively simple terms. lol. Go google for more.

higher speed can share with more family members in the same house without slowing down???

Do note that mgig (1/2.5/5g) will not negotiate 2.5 or 5g with a 1/10g switch.
If the mgig PHY supports 10g tho, it will negotiate 10g with the 1/10g switch. The vast majority of mgig equipped motherboards do not support 10G negotiation.
