the amount of extra heat compared to the performance gained is not worth it :o :o :o

IMO yes, modern CPUs are already clocked to their limits, so much that they break when you look at them the wrong way (Intel 13/14th gen, AMD 9000 series degradation).

There is simply no more potential to extract without significant costs (extreme heat and/or power consumption, risk of further degradation, etc.).

yup. performance bottleneck now at GPU. GPU overclocking and undervolting still going strong thou

Now people would rather undervolt their CPU’s so that they use less wattage for the same performance. On AMD Ryzen, you can download Ryzen Master utility to perform automatic safe overclocking, which cuts out the guesswork and risks with manual overlocking.

Long gone are the days like the Celery 300A which can easily oc up to 450MHz. These days is a niche hobby.

recently amd cpus were burnt on asrock mbs ... so watch out ... and tdps are getting highs ...
