In Singapore, electricity is generally slightly more expensive than gas, with the current electricity tariff sitting at around 28.12 cents per kWh (without GST) compared to a gas tariff of 22.72 cents per kWh (without GST) as of January 2025; meaning gas is currently cheaper than electricity in Singapore.

i dun feel any heat unless i doing deep fry or steaming.
Imo due to efficiency gas will take longer to cook, so cost difference likely even closer.

You try boil water with gas vs induction, the time saving differential means the gap likely to be close even if gas is cheaper.

Ya. Thats why i only use induction to boil water and soups. Very fast. But the good thing for gas is the con in this case. Gas will heat up the pot/pan evenly but means the heat transfer to the liquid is much worse.

Best thing about induction vs gas is the safety. Even if you forget to turn off or set timer, then the induction stove will turn off automatically when it detect the temperature is getting too high after all the moisture boil off.

IMHO.
The above, pipe gas is 172.54 kWh. Electricity by calculation is 120 kWh. Therefore, electricity cost $41.64.
AI says 14kg of LPG yields 178.9 kWh, cylinder is cheaper.
In terms of price, is cylinder, electricity and piped gas.
But gas, pipe or cylinder, is not GREEN compared to electricity - electricity uses less.

soup?
rice dumpling?

Soup with vege and meat pieces don't need 2 hrs to cook. About 15 - 20 min will do

Not sure about rice dumpling

You ever cook black beans or groundnuts? If no, try cooking them and see how long they take

green not my concern.
carbon tax is my concern. :(
anyway, i got feeling renewable energy or nuclear energy will cost in the future.
The imported electricity – produced from sources such as solar, wind and hydropower – is expected to be priced at a premium, as a result of the hefty price tag that comes with the necessary battery storage solutions and electricity transmission cables.

gas still the best.

gas is cheaper than induction. electricity bill might increase in the future also.
gas is also easy to clean.
gas suitable for stir fry

the cons
-check for gas leak
-not suitable for windy kitchen
-slower for boiling/steaming

reference
Cost of using gas stove 10 years = $900 + $260~$480 (stove/hob+maintenance)
Cost of using induction 10 years = $1425.6 + $120 (3 x induction cooker)
Gas stove is slowly but surely poisoning people in the household. Never on, can still leak gas. When using, incomplete combustion = more particles released.

Gonna get induction next time, meanwhile, suffer with gas.

Are gas stoves harmful to health and climate?
Gas stoves happen to be one of the major sources of indoor pollution in modern homes – especially those with limited ventilation – because cooking is fuelled by combustible gas.

In Singapore, gas stoves fire up mainly from piped town gas and liquefied petroleum gas in canisters. City Energy supplies town gas – comprising methane and hydrogen – that is piped to more than 900,000 homes and businesses.

Prof Bala said: “The gases – like natural gas, methane and propane – contain carbon. And the combustion process is seldom complete. Incomplete combustion could generate carbon monoxide.”

He added: “And another gas being produced along with it is nitrogen dioxide (NO2).” NO2 can be produced during the combustion process in the presence of nitrogen in the air.

Recently, for both health and climate reasons, places such as Oxford in England, Victoria in Australia, and New York have either announced or implemented a ban on gas hobs and connections in new buildings.

My advice.

Get a gas hood. Buy portable induction cooker.

Induction cooker is better for boiling stuff as dunnid to look out for 火候. Gas much easier to control the heat

Portable induction noisy as compared to the big ones
