IT helpdesk support/tech support question

Hi guys. I'm very interested in IT jobs. I'm currently looking for jobs mentioned above.
I'm currently only holding a O levels cert and working full time at some customer support. Currently 25 years old btw.
Will it work out if I take IT courses (maybe from comptia) and NOT taking diploma?
If yes, anyone got recommendations on what IT courses I should start taking now?

whats wrong with customer support ?

yes, diploma is not that useful in IT but it still helps. you can try to study and take MCSA or CCNA on your own, that will be more than enough to help you land an entry level IT job (if your salary expectations are not that high 1.8k-2.5k)

IT is not as good as u think, if able to climb the ladder in customer support, it is better, level 1 IT support is also the same most of the time, need to deal with a lot of users/management/people on top of technical issues.

alternative can try to go for Express IT at Lithan Hall Academy (though some ppl said not good). got a few threads before here where ppl asked the same qn so maybe u can take a look at them too.

Go private dip and degree. Its does makes a difference. Certification u want to go to which route?

go complete your dip/degree paper first.

when u get older and u still hold on only to O leber paper and doing desktop jod, u will forever stuck w 2.5k jod .

hi ts agree with the rest that you should at least have a dip or degree first...after that if u still want to pursue the IT helpdesk role then get the ITIL certification. that's a very impt cert to have in the helpdesk industry

It really depends on what is your future plan.

There is always a different route with a different plan. If you plan to stay as level one support, basic cert like A+, MCP, CCENT will work.

If you plan to move on to level two support, you will need a dip (pte or gov) and more adv cert.

Of course, if you plan to get more grant for study and job in govt sector, you will need to get dip with govt body.

When you plan to move to level three, SME, you will need more adv cert and experience.

Of course, you plan to move to management level, Degree will be a ticket to join the team.

If you plan to be a Regional Management Team, MSc is the entry ticket. Of course, whatever mention above are required too.

Dip, Degree and Master is one-time pain with expensive price.

Cert is a lot cheaper. But you need to renew it every 2 - 3 years depending on what cert are you taking. I had an old friend that clear cert yearly just to keep all his cert updated. Spend many months of study and a lot more money on study materials.

My honest opinion, I will favor the Diploma route. This is due to the fact in the future when you want to pursue your degree it will be easy. Not unless you want to be a professional by going for certifications. If that is your route, I will again favor CCNA, and later CISP

But again you will need to understand your area of interest, understand the difference certifications. In this way, you will be able to make an informed decision for instance if you want to go the networking way CCNA will be ideal.

I can totally agree with that. Sometimes I think that it's easier to order some technical help from trusted resource or other third-party companies, who can offer great technical solutions for specific business needs, implement all levels of security and providing office of any company with the related technical maintenance.
