It's a scam, and a pretty hilarious one.

Any sort of MLM for investment is always a scam - there's no way to do it without paying people's commissions out of other people's investments, which is the textbook definition of a ponzi scheme.

And this one is pretty silly, if I'm being honest. Investment portfolios of Hungarian and Romanian wine? Who in their right mind is going to pay up for Romanian wine?!

Stay away from this one. Your instincts were right - it's a scam.

My advice to you is to do more research and know your knowledge well before deciding on wine investment. Read up the company background and be mindful that you do not merely listen to one-sided story of the company agents.
Is it really an investment?

Read up - Google is always your best friend! How such investment works, company check, history scam wine/ gold investment cases in singapore (there were quite a few scam wine cases, so you might want read up more... identify the similar characteristic from this history scam cases).

Be cautious when you go for the company talks, seminars or meetings... with an open mind :)

The reason is they are generally experienced and excellent in public speaking, engaging people to communicate. In a way, they are good at 'persuading' (brainwashing) the audience on attractive incentives, 30% - 200% profit margin, showing real-life example of the successful and richest person.

The richest person who can be driving an exotic LAMBO sport car, high-end watches etc... and maybe you can be one of them within 5 years time?
Think rationally... Is this realistic?
(30% - 150% profit earn in N period of times. For a corporate organisation, it is unlikely to achieve 30% of profit per annum, not to even say over 100% of profit generated. ) The company will have a huge finance issue... in such a high returns to investor? To me, it is too good to be true...

Always challenge and question them when their answer doesn't satisfied you... (they usually share with you in how to make BIG money than to share with you about real investment). By asking them question, you can see if they are trustworthy.. provided you do your own research and knowledge well.

Is it really an investment or Multi-Level Marketing? Be mindful that they are of 2 different interests.

The cons is that it is unregulated market. Investors are not being protected. I will not be surprised if you happened to invest 10k and there is no payback money in returns. Be mindful once the company become at mature stage, fundings may be overshort and eventually closed down. Company are attracting more and more people to 'invest' on wine (OR investing in the company instead:s8:), this make up the big pool of 'funds'. Who is the one that has the most gain?

Unlikely FX investment, stock tradings are regulated by the policies and law and somehow, investors are being protected.

Conclusion is just be mindful, get your research and knowledge well and don't just listen to one-sided story... you can still make other investment in future. :)

Lol the guys in the wine thread in hwz prolly know 100x more about wines than those idiots running the scam.

I got a tip if ur so interested:

Buy a 1990/2005 1st/2nd growth Bordeaux red, keep it for 20 yrs. Thats an investment. Oh and u'll need a wine fridge to keep the temperature stable for 20 yrs straight, buy one too.

Or hell just be like the rich Chinese, just buy a f*cking vineyard, then watch the money flow in.

Dear all,

We are the official account, representing IVAI Pty Ltd (ACN: 164387491) in Hardware Zone.

It has come to our attention that our firm has become a topic of discussion on Singapore’s renowned forum, Hardware Zone. We thank everyone for the interest and attention on our humble firm to be talked about on this forum.

We are here to better introduce ourselves to ensure that all our traders can expand their business successfully in Asia:

With Singapore and Hong Kong as our up and coming wine trading headquarters, we are a firm with our administrative headquarter based in Australia. IVAI specialise in importing and exporting of Hungary and Romania wines into the Asia markets.

According to the studies that our research team has done, there has been a surge in demand for good quality handcrafted wines in Asia. For example, according to wineinstitute.org, the production of wine in Hungary and Romania had a drastic drop of 41.4% and 39.45% respectively between year 2009 to 2012. On the other hand, the wine consumptions in Asia has also risen steadily over 2009 to 2012, with Singapore increasing by 22.5%, China by 56.8% and Hong Kong by 36.3%, just to name a few.

With that, we are currently working on expanding our red wine trading platform to meet the demand of red wine traders in the market.

The small success we have is the result of the continuos support that our Asian traders have been giving us. We look forward to expanding this platform with the best of our abilities.

Thank you for the support!

Ain't helping. Try telling us who are your clients exactly? Who consume hungarian and romania wine? What's the brand of the wine you are selling? The name of the wine?

I only just realised these guys are an Australian company. Couple of things:

1) They're based in Southport, on the Gold Coast - and the Gold Coast is basically the fraud capital of Australia. Every dodgy boiler room; every flaky horse-betting or stock-picking software scam; every weird investment thingy; it's a good bet that they're based on the Gold Coast.

Fun historical fact - this used to be because the Queensland Police Force was more crooked than Lombard Street. Back in the roaring eighties, when the QPF came around, these firms would usually just pay them off and keep on truckin'. This all came to a bit of a screeching halt in 1987, when the news program Four Corners (which really is a national treasure in Australia) screened The Moonlight State, which basically accused everyone up to and including the state Police Commissioner of massive systematic corruption.

(You can watch The Moonlight State online right here, and you really should take an hour to watch it - it's an absolutely brilliant example of investigative journalism.)

Basing your business on the Gold Coast is a great way to get yourself a healthy dose of guilt-by-association.

2) You need an Australian Financial Services license to run any sort of investment marketplace or trading platform in Australia. I'm pretty sure IVAI doesn't have an AFSL, and I'm also pretty sure the folks at ASIC - the rather good Australian investments watchdog - would appreciate a tipoff.

What I found was quite diff from you leh Shiny but its equally bad. It seems this group is sort of an offspring / multiple arms of Cuffz Holdings. Just a simple google & you can see the mountain of issues with Cuffz.

Oh interesting. Yeah, Cuffz has always seemed massively sketchy to me. (Here's a thought experiment: guys, how often do you buy cufflinks? Pretty infrequently, right - maybe once a decade, if you even wear French-cuff shirts at all? Now, given that, how is a shop that sells nothing but cufflinks able to afford the rent on a shopfront on Orchard Road?)

Either way, this company should be setting off all sorts of red flags, and if they have an Australian presence then ASIC's going to come down on them like a ton of bricks.
