Anyone will recommendation, first time for Japan holiday freeNeasy. I plan Okinawa site visit,,, plus maybe Kyoto. How many days is sufficent and which airport will be recommended ? :s22: Plan for beginning of April.

I think you need to check if there are any direct flights to Okinawa (think its Naha airport?) from SG. If not you probably nedd to land at Haneda first before changing flight to Okinawa. Or maybe change flight at other countries like HK or TW.

Okinawa is not even near mainland Japan, so I suggest you just concentrate fully there, unless you plan to transit at Kansai Airport.

Windowlover Is it your first time in Japan, or first time planning a free & easy trip in Japan? Okinawa is quite an unusual choice for a first timer ...

I heard from radio station for this interest from my friend.
1st to Japan but have try freeNEasy for other area like Seoul before.
If that the case, Kyoto and Tokyo is better.

i went to ishigaki last year (near okinawa). fly from tokyo > ishigaki/naha direct about $200+ 2-ways. book thru the special japan airlines/ANA domestic flights for foreigners. got promo oneand extra cheap if you are already flying there with either jap airlines!

the domestic flight can go anywhere (like the JR rail), but of okinawa means u must fly :s22:

Hi everyone. I am planning a 7-10 days to just Tokyo with just my boy (age 6) this year. It is our 1st time in Japan. We would like to visit Disneyland and DisneySea, visit some interesting Museum (Science and Nature, Ghibli), Aquarium (there are a few. can recommend the better one?), Playground for kids, Ueno Zoo and places to buy toys (for kids and myself).
Any recommended travel period, hotel/apartment, places to eat/drink/relax, please share as I can see that lots of the users here are season Tokyo travelers.
Thank you very much.

Haha my 16D itinerary during may was like:

Tokyo > 2N Hakone > 2N Mt Fuji > Kyoto > Nara > Osaka > Nagoya > > 1N Unazuki Onsen > 1N Tateyama Alphine Route > Tokyo

I think if you remove kyoto nara osaka nagoya, 10 days is quite comfortable.

That time didn't have the hokuriku shinkansen and tokyo - hakone is by odakyu line so I didnt get the JR pass.

I think if you do intend to go to Tateyama Kurobe, the tateyama hotel which is the highest hotel in japan at 3000m height, is your best choice. It can be quite expensive ~$300 for a room with moderate half board. Try to get a room either fri/sat for their star gazing programme - the rooms runs out fast. Reach early, ard 3 for the snow wall walk and the snow shoes walk. And join the sunrise programme. They will bring you to the other side of the mountain to see the sunrise.

Of course there are other accomodation options, but located in a more distant area.

Try to go as early as possible as snow melts. By the time i went, the 30m snow wall was like 18m

I did nikko on a separate trip but twice during winter. If you are lucky, you might be able to see sakura or other types of cherry blossom at hakone nikko area (higher and cooler). I love the 100m waterfall in nikko. Its one of the top 3 waterfalls in Japan. There are also other waterfalls there and highlands and many many attractions i failed to visit. If you do go nikko i suggest self drive. Dont bother with the tobu railways and bus system.

actually besides tokyo and tateyama kurobe, you should do self drive for the rest. Its much more convenient and time flexible. And you wont have to do side trips and make tokyo your base Since you dont have to lug your luggage around too. My experience with car rental in japan has been great. Its about $60 a day rental. Which sometimes is much more cost efficent than getting a pass or many passes.

just an update - i think i'm defo going for the flower fest at mt fuji and tateyama :s12::s12: really excited, haven't booked it yet. still trying to find the most cost-worthy route so let me know if you have recos! i dont think JR pass would make sense for this since i'm only going to be using it for half routes (there's no full route to tateyama fm tokyo for instance that JR pass covers :'(). how much did you spend getting to tokyo > mt fuji > tateyama and bk to tokyo?
