Hokkaido veterans, planning for my first trip up north, mainly Sapporo.

What's the must eat over there?

How's the buffet spread over at the beer museum? Worth it?

Soup curry is a must try since it originates from hokkaido. Curry Garaku is really nice. It is in the top 10 of tabelog. Just around the corner from tanukikoji shopping street so it is very popular. Be prepared to queue 1 hour plus on weekend.

If u ever make a trip to obihiro, just in front of the jr station, there is a butadon poncho which is also damn nice, much better then the famous tokaichi butadon that many people queue up for in sapporo jr station

Yes garaku curry is nice! I was one of the crazies who queued during winter. But never regretted! probably that's makes the bowl even more delicious - piping hot after a super cold wait.

Will five garaku a try before I fly back. Just had suage yesterday and I'm already hooked on soup curry.

Also tried Shingen's and ichigen's ramen . Shingen's mito (rich shoyu) ramen is delicious and ichigen's ebi base ramen is ultra delicious!

Here is another recommendation from hakodate hokkaido. I just dine here tonight. Not well known I think. The curry is hand made and each serving is made fresh upon order. Is a small outlet,one chef and one helper. Serious the best curry rice I had. Not tonkutsu style fried patty curry rice, is actual chicken meat cooked in the curry.

Garaku weekday queue much shorter, I went back on a weekday for dinner to try the pork version and the queue was 20 minutes plus only

If you eat lamb, then Genghis khan / Jingisu kan ba. Daruma honten is a nice place (but damn small and therefore queues can be long), otherwise go eat at the beer museum?

Oh good for you. I stayed in Sapporo during the Snow Festival period, went on a weekday but the queue was bad and it was snowing. So we left.

If u are in hakodate, can try lucky pierrot hamburger chain too. Very nice too.

No idea how they compare, I just came back to the city and came over to garaku but they are closed.

Got directed to their sister shop, treasures and am now waiting for my food

these curry not hot/spicy one rite?

For suage, not spicy at all. For treasure, there's a kick

And suage pales in comparison to treasure.

For treasure, though there's lesser broth, it has more depth and there's more vege and the vege are better prepared. Example, they have deep fried broccoli in the soup.

For suage, there's more broth and still flavorful but losses out to the one at treasures.

One thing I've noticed, there's no pork option at treasures. Perhaps that's the difference

Wtf, I am now in kobe and need to update so people dun go this place. Kobe A-1 resturant which used to have some fame for kobe beef. Now they change location and I think chef.

I order their highest grade 8300 yen asking for medium raw and they absoluted butchered the meal.

60% of it was rare, the rest medium rare. I was like chewing raw meat for some part. It is not even tender which kobe beef is supposed to melt on mouth. Even steakland was much much better.

Even A yayoiken beef steak meal which cost 1200 yen tasted much better.

No wonder I open the door, only 2 customers when previously might have to wait.

The table arrangement are haphazard like trying to fit as much table as possible.

The workers like not interested to work. Even when the previous 2 diners left and left only me dining, they were chatting among themselves, did not even noticed the glass of water they gave me is long gone as that hotplate of kobe beef tasted horrible. None of the side ingredients like onion, the garlic slices or the vege goes well with the beef, the taste clashed in fact, the onion has slight burnt taste even overpowered the beef. The beef was actually tasteless compared to the onion and garlic.



Steakland was much much better, felt I kenna scam, paid 8300 yen for kobe beef that tasted worst then a 1000 cheap beef meal elsewhere.

Nvr felt I ate a meal that tasted so bad in japan.

After I paid the bill, they gave me a tissue pack with advert for their resturant.

The whole experience is like eating at a super cheap place with tiongs workers

Shima is one of the more/most famous steakhouses in Tokyo, go liao surely won't regret. You can ask thwysg for more details cos she visited last week.

are the desserts nice? is it worth going to? i no hab netflix cannot find this show anywhere else

Haha well ... frankly speaking for a first or second timer to Tokyo, you'd have to be a HUGE fan of both desserts and the Netflix show in order to go to eat at those shops (and give up other tourist attractions / activities).
