hmm yea . must eat alot of good food in japan to compensate for all the unhealthy food we are eating for so many years :s13: .

anyways . anyone know where in singapore sells otsukeme ( i think correct spelling ) ?

I'm quite sure it's not otsukeme.... what is that which you're looking for?

tsuke-men (dipping ramen)? tsukemono (pickles)?

You can try Menya Shinchan(do a search), their
Pork bone & seafood cold dipping noodles.

Off topic: You can try their Mazesoba too, yummy~

Regarding conveyor belt sushi, I went to a few diff outlets in Tokyo. For 天下 sushi (Shibuya branch), it costs 130yen per plate.

Some of the stuffs I had..
Good quality stuff~

You mean the ABSOLUTELY BEST or just very good unagi?

Frankly, we probably can't tell the difference between the top 20 unagi restaurants...make that top 50. There are some good unagi places in Asakusa and Ueno, that grills the unagi live only upon order. But cheapest set would be around 6000-10000 yen.

as for where is the ABSOLUTE BEST? My bet is that it is some place no tourist will ever know about. You probably need some well-heeled Japanese to introduce you. Like the best ryokans and kaiseki restaurants.

1) 尾花 - A few blocks south of Minami Senju station.
2) 鈴木 - prob one of the best 'known' places in Tokyo itself, located 20 mins from Chofu station. west of Shibuya/Setagaya
3) 色川 - Cheaper option (about 5000 yen) a few blocks south of Asakusa stn, east of Tawaramachi Stn.
Just saw this thread for first time. :o Had unagi at 色川 when I was in Tokyo in Apr. Was really good. Recommended and price is reasonable.

Aiyah, why I never see this thread before? Ok ehre are some of my recommendations...

This bowl of ramen is the absolute best that I have tasted so far... and it's not expensive. I think about 650yen. The soup is boiled with pig bone, and I think they added some soy sauce thingy before putting the noodle into the bowl. Plus they lay it out with those pieces of seaweed and garnish with spring onions (I think?) The presentation makes the bowl of noodle look like it is in a lotus flower.

It is at this shop that is a bit furthur ahead of Shinjuku Station's west exit. Once you see Tully's Coffee, turn left and then right and go straight. Should be able to see the shop.

And this cake... I have mentioned it before... omg so bloody sinful but oh so worth it. I bet they import the cream from heaven lol. I got it from the supermarket at Matsuya in Ginza.

Ok I will let you all know more when I come back from my trip in late Nov.

Mayonnaise + Ramen

the title alone sounds totally wrong lah. mayo ramen. erm... o.t abit, but that actress looks familiar

btw Zx, nice pictures. how was the ramen ? was it good ? looks good but they abit the stingy with the char siew right ? its quite small. of all the ramen places brother dreamer brought me to eat in hokkaido, usually the char siew is giant mega round portions.

btw brother feryl, when u see this, just curious, where does tonkakotsu or the pork bone style ramen stock originate from ? Hakata, kyushu ? im not sure and i dont know, but im guessing its there since its the only place in Japan to rear and feature pork in their cuisine aside from okinawa.

dreamer: wow, wait you actually eat it :D I gained weight when I came back in May. This time i am going to calorie count judiciously. But that cake... damn I will have to share the damage cos it lasts only one day!

stars: the ramen is good! I ate there at least 4 times during my 6 day stay in May. I love the soup, because you cannot get such tasty soup in Singapore. It tastes salty, but is not overly so. Flavourful because you get a mix of the pork bone, the seaweed and tau geh.

The cha siew portion looks stingy because I ordered the seaweed set. If it was the char siew set then the portions would be much more generous.

I've seen customers downing bowl after bowl of noodles in one sitting. The cook will just cook the noodles and refill their bowl. Of course have to pay more but wow they can eat so much!

I have to say it again..... THAT CAKE!!! Yum!

yup... the pork bone stock ramen is from hakata
i had it twice when i was there. superb! :D

the locals will usually order with an extra serving of ramen for about 100yen more. i didnt try it though... save some space in my stomach for other goodies :s13:
