Hi all,

I'm planning a short and relax Nagoya/Takayama trip. Would like to get advice on the itinerary.

Day 1
- Arrive 9am. From Chubu airport to Takayama via Gifu (Nohi transfer tix 3700yen)
- Stay Takayama

Day 2
- Shirkawago (activate shoryudo 3 days bus pass, possible at Takayama?)
- Stay Takayama

Day 3
- Explore Takayama
- Stay Takayama

Day 4
- Return to Nagoya
- Stay Nagoya

Day 5
- Osu Kannon
- Stay Nagoya

Day 6
- Nagoya castle
- Stay Nagoya

Day 7
- ?
- Stay Nagoya (though prefer tokoname)

Day 8
- Morning flight back

Seems like not really making good use of the 3 days bus pass. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Wow. Super relaxed. Have you looked at the possible sample course routes?

Going 2 weeks later on 21st. Looks like it's too relax for most here.

My first trip to Nagoya and first time using bus pass to move around so I'm on conservative side.

I wanted to transfer at Gifu on my first day cos the route from Nagoya station to bus station looks too complex. My sense of direction is horrible.

I will reach Takamaya in the afternoon and next day I intend to have a side trip. That means no chance to go to morning market or walk around much. Takamaya looks nice so I thought maybe one more day might be nice.

I saw the sample routes but half day at Kanazawa or Toyama looks too short? Might as well focus on one place.. unless Takayama only need half a day type of trip?

Can I check if the bus pass starts the moment I exchange? If so that means i should exchange only at Takayama bus station?

I looked thru Gamagori or Inuyama but nothing seems to interest me, except maybe the castle. There again, one castle should be more than enough bah.

Also does Atsuta Shrine fit better with castle trip?

Thanks for all suggestions.

Looks good, very relax.

How about activating on 1st day straight away, day 3 night return to stay at Nagoya?

Day 7 can consider a day trip to Gamagori or Inuyama?

When is ur travelling period because i see from japan guide Nagoya Castle's main keep is scheduled to be reconstructed, expected to be torn down from autumn 2019. Anyway if you are into castle, the original 1 in Inuyama might appeals more to u.

Actually the pass won't pay off if u uses it only for the round trip for Shirakawa and a 1 way trip to Nagoya?

Round trip 4.6k, 1 way to Nagoya 3.1k, the pass is 8.5k. Really only worth to use it only the 1st day if you want to.

Atsuta Shrine / Osu Kannon / Nagoya Castle are all on the Meijo line except Osu Kannon need to change train at Kamimaezu Station. Any 3 can reach in less den 30 mins so doesn't matter which day u want to fit Atsuta Shrine in.

Ah... I see what u mean...

If that's the case, I shouldn't be buying the bus pass then. That way it would be own time own target then. Don't have the energy to run too many places as well.

So my tickets would be
- one way from airport to Takamaya via Gifu
- return from Takayama to Shirakawa
- one way from Takamaya to Nagoya
- maybe a ride to Hida Furukawa

Thanks.

Ok this is the 2nd time im going to japan but will be the first time im taking charge of it as in looking at google map and reach our destination.

I'm going with my mum plus my plan is to eat, shopping, scenery and play. Not really into temples. Will be at Osaka for 4 days and Tokyo for 8 days. This trip more on relax tour and don't plan to go so many places in a day as my mum can't walk the whole day.

- Stay Namba
- Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori

Day 3
- 1 day tour in Kyoto (Already book the tour)

Day 4
- USJ

Day 5
- Stay Shinjuku
- Advance reservation for Airport Limousine
- Walk around Shinjuku

Day 6
- Pokmon center Tokyo DX
- Pokemon Cafe
- Meiji Jingu Gaien

Day 7
- Mt Fuji 1 day tour

Day 8
- Harajuku
- Asakusa
- Nakamise shopping street

Day 9
- Ginza
- Akihabara

Day 10
- Harajuku

Day 11
- Disneyland

Day 12

Thanks.

Return from Nagoya trip.

Didn't take the SHORYUDO pass. Instead took a Transfer ticket from chubu airport to Takayama with a transfer at Gifu. Get the ticket from airport and they will book the Rail and the bus for you. Just need to make sure they got the date and time right.

https://www.nouhibus.co.jp/other/centrair-to-takayama_en/

As for the side trip to Shirakawa-go, I booked day tour which departed from Takayama bus centre. Quite a good experience and it's hassle free, no need to rush to book return bus when u reach Shirakawa-go. Seats are secure and came with lunch. It was raining when I took the tour and the guide provides umbrella and changed the itinerary depending on the weather condition.

There are also day tour depart from Nagoya city centre as well. Just book online from sites like japanican klook or changi recommends. You can also just walk in to book the day tour at Takayama bus centre.

Thanks all for the help.

Osaka and kyoto very near, dun think u need 2hrs return. But depends which part of kyoto and osaka also lah. If it is osaka station to kyoto station, it is only 30min, really convenient to base in either place and make day trips to the other.

Personally, i prefer to base in osaka, given the limited number of days. Make day trips to kyoto during the day, then return to osaka in the evening for food and shopping. This way, u get the best of both world.

if want to go kyoto 3 days, is it better to stay at kyoto 3 days or commute everyday from Osaka to Kyoto dialy? :s11:
