My humble blog on our travel off the beaten track from 27th Nov to 6th Dec in Hokkaido. Rented a car drove in snow for the first time.

Hokkaido Travel in Winter

I wish I have your knowledge and courage to plan this trip. I already drained out just planning the Taipei family trip within 1 month back in 2015.

Now my wife is asking me when can we go to either Taiwan or Japan.

But one of the pictures in your blog really made me super excited. THE GUNDAM HEAVEN!! :D

I'm going to Japan in Feb and I need some help regarding my itinerary. This is my rough plan.

Day 1 Arrival at 10am:
Check in to Shinjuku
Ginza
Harajuku
Walk around Shinjuku at night

Day 2:
Gotemba
Asakusa
Akihabara

Day 3:
Odaiba
Shibuya

Day 4:
Yokohama

Where can I include for day 4 and is there any places that I should switch around so that it is more on the way?

Do you know Gotemba is not very near Tokyo city? Yokohama? Both places could take up at least half a day to a full day. You're heading back to Ginza for two days?

Seems quite a rushed itinerary. Is this your first trip? There's still winter illuminations if you're keen. Early, mid or late Feb for your trip?

how about doing Kamakura, Enoshima while you are at Yokohama? yes, Gotemba is not really that near. If you going to lake kawaguchi then Gotemba is accessible via bus.

Gotemba is a really good place to shop. Some branded are really cheap there but the food is normal/lousy (I rather to eat MAC at gotenba than the over price normal standard food). We pop by Gotemba 3 times when I stay at Hakone for 3 days. Drove up and down the hakone hills at least 6 times. Take note! It closed at 7pm - jap timing!

Lake kawaguchi? I prefer to go lake ashi.

how come ginza and harajuku is repeated on day 1 and 3?

and as mentioned by others, gotemba is quite a distance from tokyo. u will likely need the whole day because of the travel time and the bus frequency.

u can see here on how to get to gotemba:
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5213.html

if this is ur first time to japan, i would suggest dropping gotemba so u have more time for tokyo

I'm going late feb and this is my first trip. Made a mistake and included ginza twice.

Made a mistake for ginza and harajuku. I want to have a look at the premium outlet hence choosing gotemba.

Is it advisable to go for the mt fuji tour in late march by agency ? 100+ i think. Read that hakone/ kawaguchi can see mt fuji, which is better? For scenary / pics etc.. And if so, stay tokyo or stay somewhere near? Cos i know it tskes up a day. If coming from kyoto..

both Hakone and Kawaguchi have their own attraction and beauty, Lake Kawaguchi is nearer to Mt Fuji, so you get to see it upfront. It is recommended to stay at hakone/kawaguchi because there are times, you wouldn't see/catch a glimpse of Mt Fuji during cloudy/fogging days.

Yeah! Mt Fuji is very shy. Need some luck to get a good clear view and very lucky if you can 100% of it.

Kawaguchi might have a higher chance since is closer to Mt Fuji and nearer via Kyoto. Hakone is nearer towards Tokyo and nearer to Gotemba for shopping.

Are you getting a Tokyo Wide Pass for Gala Yuzawa and Karuizawa? If yes, maybe you should lump the days by swapping day 2 to day 4. This will let u use the pass for NEX too.

yes, i'm going to use the tokyo wide pass.

considering that the skyliner will stop at ueno, i decided to just take it instead of the NEX where i will have to change trains with my luggage. as it is my first time to tokyo, just wanted to make it less complicated even though it will cost a bit more.

thank you for your suggestion!

any reason for changing accom on day 5?
u can just stay in one location throughout coz it is not very far to travel between shibuya and ueno. save u the hassle of changing accom

Icic, but you can also take these at Tokyo Stn, they should be less crowded:

JR Joban Line for KATSUTA
LTD. EXP HITACHI 21

no particular reason. just wanted to experience staying in different parts of the city.

actually not too much of a hassle as the airbnb at Shibuya allows early checkin. i can checkout at Ueno and checkin right away and start the day.

thank you! i'll take a look.

I rather you lump Tsukiji market and Odiaba (on the way) on the same day, next day the Ginza, roppongi etc etc.

I suggest you bring Disneyland to last day when you flying off. I did the same - morning reach airport and early drop-off luggage 10am despite my flight at 10pm. They accept it and zoom I off to Disneyland which closed at 7pm - took bus to haneda airport -less than 1hrs in time for dinner and check-in flight.
