Based on ur itinerary, jr pass very likely to be worth it since the return trip between tokyo and osaka is already almost the cost of the pass.
Jr pass is only valid for jr train lines, which include those that serves within the cities. There is JR Yamanote line in tokyo, which can get u to most attractions in Tokyo. For the other places not covered by jr, just purchase single trip ticket or their ezlink(suica)
Just be careful and drive slowly on mountainous roads. There are some points where there is only one lane shared by traffic from both directions.. Just be more cautious of those. Thanks for the detailed trip report, just read through it.
Have some questions, the road conditions and bends of iya gorge, was it tough?
And if you had more time will you add Kochi region into your itinerary?
For osaka, there is JR osaka loop line. U can refer to the maps in japan-guide to see what lines are under which company. Shld be under the 'getting ard' section under osaka pageWhat about Osaka? The train line in Osaka only is there any line that cover the main attractions and is Jr?
Or should we buy the 1,3 days unlimited train pass too?
6 days for tokyo is already quite packed since u are making side trips to hakone and Yokohama.Hello 1st timer to japan (will be landing at haneda ap),below is a rough itinenary:
14-17 apr 18 - Shinjuku with ginza & asakusa
17-18 - apr - tokyo disneyland
18-20 qpr - hakone go try hot spring with mt fuji view
20-21 apr yokohama
it's a 6 days trip. Tot of covering a bit of osaka, possible? Right now our rough places are ,tokyo and yokohama. is it a waste to spend so many days in tokyo?
Thank you for your advice. Think so focused on tokyo, kyoto and hakone then?6 days for tokyo is already quite packed since u are making side trips to hakone and Yokohama.
Would be too rush, and not economical to make a trip to osaka just for 1 or 2 days. Coz there are many other place in kansai, such as kyoto and nara. And tt would have been a trip on its own
Kyoto is in kansai, out of the way also. Stick to ur plan, which is tokyo, hakone and YokohamaThank you for your advice. Think so focused on tokyo, kyoto and hakone then?
Sorry, not familiar with airbnb. Airbnb used to be illegal in most parts of japan.. Not sure if they have changed the rules.Hi guys, any airbnb recommendations for 6 adults with 2 children less than 3yo in osaka?
TIA
Hello, I'm planning for a Dec 18 trip to Japan (first time) thinking of staying there during 9 to 22 Dec (~13 days).
(1) Is 13 days enough for Tokyo-->Osaka-->Kyoto? or should i just concentrate in Tokyo / Osaka+Kyoto?
(2) Is there anything i should watch out for if I want to go to Tokyo,Osaka,Kyoto during 9 to 22 Dec? things like, many places will not be accessible, nothing to visit etc.
(3) Notice that Hokkaido is very popular for December period as well but will 13 days be too much for Hokkaido?
tokyo, osaka and kyoto can be done in 13 days. However, i personally prefer to split them into 2 trips coz it is a long way from tokyo to osaka/kyoto, and train fare is expensive. Rather stick to one region and do short trips to nearby placesHello, I'm planning for a Dec 18 trip to Japan (first time) thinking of staying there during 9 to 22 Dec (~13 days).

If u are heading down to hakodate, u may want to stop by lake toya or noboribetsu in order to break up the long journey down.Any recommendations on Hokkaido July 12 days trip not driving?
Most ppl recommend Hakodate, furano, bei and Sapporo. But don't know how many days per location.

Hakodate probably 2 days, Sapporo maybe 3 days including a side trip to otaru, a day each for the other places.
Please comment:
1. Fly to Asahikawa airport stay as base for 5 days, travelling to furano and biei.
2. Travel to noboribetsu for 3 days.
3. Sapporo for 4 days with trips to Otaru
Skipping Hakodate as travels too far.
