u can do that. since u are already covering harajuku and shibuya in day 1.

like wat thwysg said, it really depends on ur interest and wat u plan to do at each place. if u are a big anime fan, even a whole day at akihabara wouldnt be enough. whereas for those who are not into anime, half a day or less is enough just to get a feel of the anime scene in japan. some ppl choose to skip akihabara altogether.

u can always change ur plan on the go. the places are not that far apart and u can always reshuffle ur itinerary when u are there. at most u just incur slightly more transport time and cost, but tt will be quite minimum. so just have a rough plan and adjust as needed when u are there.

I'm not sure what you're looking for in Himeji. But if your main aim is just the castle and the garden, just do it as a half day trip and head to other areas? Can try this.

kobe have many interesting things to see. if u have time, u can visit akashi kaikyo bridge, the world longest suspension bridge, which is a few stations away from kobe. kobe itself, can go port area for kobe tower, chinatown, kitano area, and can go mount rokko at night for the the night view of kobe city, which is the top 3 night views in japan.

First thought was that you were suggesting No. 1 ryokan Kagaya. Was staying next door, Kagaya is too expensive. Don't like its sister ryokan Aenokaze with the compulsory performance during dinner. Will try next time round when I'm visiting Noto Hanto and Ishikawa again. Hope to visit Notojima via local bus. We really love that area and the people - more laid back and more friendly.

Note: No hotel stay since it was a fly-cruise package. Very very good deal as it only cost us S$3,100 (all-in) each with red-eye SQ flights, mini suites and USD200 onboard credits. Maiden cruise tour.

Main purpose was to visit more greens plus going up mountains. Didn't follow the group to a day tour (inclusive of lunch and dinner) around Chinatown in Kobe and Osaka Castle, Dotonburi and Rinku Premium Outlets. Made our way from Port Terminal station all the way to Osaka to visit Yurien Matsuri (yay to local tourists only) followed by Umeda and Namba before heading to KIX. Thankful for the good weather in June.

Would consider heading back to Hokkaido with DIY tour instead again.

Do you feel you had enough land time? Interesting itinerary and option. Might consider for my parents as I want to take them on a more leisurely trip to Hokkaido but having to change hotels every day or so is a challenge.

Hmm, we didn't take up shore excursions with Princess while at Hakodate and Otaru. They provide shuttle buses to send the passengers to and fro Hakodate station to the port. The other excursions of course were paid with USD. There's at least 6 hours for each port.

Hakodate was special as they would prefer the passengers get a chance to go up to Mt. Hakodate for the night view.

Otaru was a little too short since we went hiking up to the peak of Mt. Tengu after the ropeway. Practically spent the whole morning to be within the mountain. Main issue was about catching the bus back to town to head back to the port.

We had a very good trip onboard the ship - not into casino. Free popcorn daily when the ship is showing new movies. Movie selection is almost on par as KrisWorld. High tea - a lot of Japanese old folks like that too. Mostly Japanese elderly couples, and you could get freshly baked cookies in the afternoons. Bring swimwear, there's heated indoor pools and jacuzzi. We skipped both nights which require formal wear and called for room service - FOC anyway. There's always daily flash sales on certain merchandise such as G-Shocks (quite affordable plus tax free) and jewellery. We didn't buy anything in the end.

The only bad thing I would say is we still do encounter big Chinese tour groups (think more Taiwanese and some HK) in certain dining rooms. A lot of food wastage from them on days when lobsters were on the menu (at least two nights). And they like to cut queues for popular programmes
