i would think 1st week of april will have a high chance for tokyo. but i havent been to tokyo in many years, dunno wat is the trend now. maybe u can check the trend for the past few years?

I was in Osaka during the 3rd week of April last year and I thought I was too late. However I got to see the sakura in all their glory! It really varies year to year.

u can consider bringing ur kid to odaiba... lots of entertainment for kids there.
Tokyo Travel: Odaiba (Daiba)

there is a legoland discovery centre one of the malls there; ferriswheel; toyota showroom that have interactive games/exhibits

Bullet Train from SHIN OSAKA - JR KYOTO STATION to Kyoto
Visit Arashiyama and Kiyomizudera temple

[u dun really need shinkansen to go from osaka to kyoto. normal train takes only 30min and is direct from osaka to kyoto, whereas u need to take a train from osaka to shin-osaka for the shinkansen.
one day only for kyoto? there are other popular attractions in kyoto u have missed out, such as fushimi inari and kinkakuji. typically kyoto need at least 2 days]

Day 7 (Saturday)
Proceed to Hiroshima with Bullet Train
Visit Atomic Bomb /PEACE PARK/Hiroshima Castle
Proceed to MIYAJIMA - Itkushima Shrine via ferry
[i personally prefer to have 1 day for miyajima and another day for hiroshima. going to be very rush to cover so many places in a day, not forgetting the train to and from osaka to hiroshima.]

Day 8 (Sunday)
Osaka - Empty
[lots of places u can visit, such as osaka aquarium, osaka castle, nissin museum, USJ. or u can shop around umeda. alternatively, can make a day trip to nara]


Day 9 (Monday)
Osaka - Shop around Shinsaibashi

Train back to Tokyo
Check-in hotel nearby Tokyo and proceed to akihabara for shopping till late

Thanks for the comments! Must say that I did not research Osaka thoroughly enough and I just copy what my friend provided =p

As I have only 1 day to spare in Osaka, any recommendations on if I should spend it in Miyajima or Kyoto since you recommended for me to stay 1 full day at Miyajima and 2 days in Kyoto

it really depends on what u wanna see.
if u have more time at miyajima/hiroshima, u can visit mount misen, and also stay for the sunset at miyajima.
if u have more time at kyoto, u can visit some of those places i listed.

have u booked ur hotels? if u have already done so, then kyoto is probably a better choice coz it is nearer. will be quite a hassle to make 2 day-trips down to hiroshima

For day 3, you might want to plan other places to visit. From my past trip to Tokyo there's not much at Solamachi (the mall beside Skytree) to really buy unless you're planning to buy snacks or raid the Hello Kitty store there (there's a bakery there with rather decent melon bread in Solamachi if you like them!). Places within half an hour travel from Skytree will be Ueno (if you want to visit museums there's a few just after Ueno Park), Akihabara (anime goods).

A tip since you'll be in Tokyo for more than 2 days: you can buy a package from the metro office just outside the airport terminal (2 way Skyliner and 2 day Metro pass @ 4880 yen). The Metro pass is valid for any 2 days so you may want to plan when you want to travel a lot while you're in Tokyo. Do estimate the rough travel costs (I remember taking the train for 1 stop on Metro is already 180yen) to have a rough gauge how much to set aside for travel

Thanks for the headsup. My friend told me that I was crazy to plan akihabara in the itinery as I wont have the time to travel so much.... To each of its own i guess, I will see what happens and if my day ended early on day 3, I will go akihabara / Ueno as a backup

Yup that's the price of it - worth getting if you want the comfort traveling from airport to Ueno/ back and planning to travel a lot around Tokyo for 2 days

3d2n is enuf to cover kyoto. but since it is ur first trip, maybe u wanna focus more on tokyo. gala yuzawa and hakone can be 2 days each and disneyland is 1 full day as well, so there isnt really much time left if u still wanna cover kyoto. it is also going to be expensive to travel from tokyo to kyoto

If you can squeeze out the time, Yokohama is a nice place to visit. I went to its Yamashita park for some fun cycling.

Ghibli is at the west of Tokyo, you need to see if you can fit it in during one of your Shinjuku/Shibuya days.
