high 17 is good if you don't main running. A lot of local triathletes (aaron/yi jun) are in the 17 range and still get good times for HM. Just that, virtually impossible to contest for marathon with their mileage.

At least 1 min can be cut when running abroad with the better weather for the 5k. Low 18 is sufficient to get sub-3 marathon but only if mileage is high enough and have marathon experience.

I am trying to gun for sub-18 min under sg weather. Not easy, worse case will accept low-18 min before transit to proper marathon training. Will take a while, maybe years. But, not in a rush since I find myself enjoying 5k training a lot, even compared to 10k.

Maybe didn't refuel properly or push herself too hard? It's her first marathon if I am not wrong, at least can complete the run and gain experience is good enough.
Jia you @Kuudere and @WussRedXLi . I am not aiming 5km for this year alr. Just upping mileage and cross training. For me if ever sub 20 5km I happy liao

Yesterday morning run. This was a moderately difficult route with elevation gain of 100m. I tried running this with no breakfast. HR was on the high side because I guess lack of fuel and scorching heat. I should have dropped my pace slightly slower to accommodate the more challenging running conditions

Anyone here run where u start the pace is normal but towards the end will get even faster and faster?
When I run 21km. My fastest pace is usually from 8km to 15km. After 15km onward. The pace will drop lower than the initial 1st 5km as I start to feel tired.. only on the 20km mark. Go full burst to finish the HM run.

Need to do proper checkup (typical full body + specific cardiac test.....basic one starts at $400 and goes up to just under 2k) before embarking on exercise regime. After that every year check the typical $165 full body and every few years cardiac can liao.

It's all fated

If got detect (small) issues then of coz get it fixed before embarking on exercise, and of coz none of those PB attempts. Can lessen the risk.

Some folks don't like to do it this way and like to know coz it's more stressful after detection and makes life misearable, is understandable but the way i see it is avoidance is not the best course of action. Some people cannot handle such information.

So the best compromise is to know it at a very early stage, like my BIL......30% 1 out of 5 blocked, and take corrective actions. No need surgery. That is only possible with regular screening, not wait till any symptom appears.
Some others just leave it to nature and see how it goes, no corrective actions as they don't believe anything can help, seen such egs before. Some folks blame cancers to be fully genetic, no amount of exercise, environmental factors or diet can help. So there are pple like that.

There's still a chance that you will died even so.

Actually I had heard of people doing yearly checkups but still mati.

That's why I don't think we can really control our lifespan.

Healthy doesn't mean you will live longer.

People asking to stop smoking as it's bad to your lungs but then it also doesn't mean that they will died young.

Life's fated.

Actually for cardiac arrest I think it’s totally preventable. Men are far more likely to get cardiac arrest compared to women because men tend to push their bodies more coz of ego.

Like yesterday when I ran, I tried to maintain my pace despite not having the ideal conditions and in the end exerted myself more than necessary. My doctor said a lot of guys who got cardiac arrest when jogging were like this. As they grew older and busier with their work, fitness level would steadily drop, but when they got time to exercise they still tried to do the same like when they used to be fitter. Then body could not take it and cardiac arrest happen.

scary.
i see older people likes to chiong fast fast, be it running, jogging or walking in a groups.
why? probably to show off or want to let people know he/she can do it.
but he or she is playing with his/her life.

Thats why my age, i dare not chiong.
I just maintain my pace and if i can catch up with the rest, its bonus.
it not, so be it.
Nothing to be ashamed of.
but alias, ego rule their head.

Nothing much just diet and exercise. He bought a Novablast 3.
But recently he cancelled his gym though.......been 1 year already.

As for medical side, just take medication and monitor, if not much use then do procedure.
