I’m still using the old school IPPT table to assess myself. 2.4km I must hit 12:21 to get 5 points.Okay lah at least u go for the run

1st HM in the calendar year, so many would wanna join to clock their PBs.
That aside, my splits are as follows:
![]()
The past 5 months I did mostly 10Ks, 3x a week, and only did 2 14Ks in Apr, so it shows. More importantly, I started feeling really dull around the 15K mark and finally took water from station but didn't feel better, so I knew it wasn't a hydration issue.
I only proceeded to take gel at 17K, took water again at 18K (holy crap, having gel stuck in my throat for a kilometer felt like hell), then felt like I could bounce back properly. The effect was almost instant, the dullness kinda faded away. Once again, this shows in the splits.
I already took a bowl of cereal with banana at 2am and thought that should keep me sufficiently fueled, but obviously it wasn't so. I really can't eat that much at such a weird timing, so need some input on how I could fuel up better. I would preferably want to get fueling done before whole HM, so what, I gotta do something like another breakfast bar about half hour before a HM? Still don't quite like the feeling of having to take a gel mid-run.
I think for the next HM, if I could solve this fueling issue, then would stand a chance to to bring timing below 2hr.
All setup... Watching the stream now. Now just interview with someone.https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002bks3/london-marathon-2025-part-1

When asked if you have a TV licence, say that you have one.
Enjoy
I am using medium quality first, 2 winscribe free accounts (10GB each) shd be more than enough.
Well done to you too!Job well done!
Mine is your timing plus 10-15 more mins, because i slowpoke + didn't do compensation.
Only consolation is that i finished true to Pen B estimation lol.
Will discuss more later, now i wait for washing machine to complete its job before i hang the clothes up and catch up with sleep...
Must always choose faster pen to avoid crowds haha. Well done nonethelessFinished with 2:39:00, 9 minutes off target, but happy to have finished the half marathon. I walked abit and started doing run-walk after halfway mark as my HR was near maximum (201).. I couldn't sustain it for long.
Didn't expect the race to be so crowded. A lot of people blocking in the center and using handphone which was abit disappointing... but guess that is a given since I am running so slow lol
Regarding the distance, it was more accurate on my end. I crossed the finishing line with 22.2km. I guess that's from all of the weaving in and out when overtaking people![]()
5km run can push more.i always go for this type of timing for 5km run. comfortable range
Why no bring more gel?2xu is so poorly organised. Roads are narrow. Water stations are badly manned. Many runners forego water coz the staffs are unable to top up on time.
ya I can consider re-fueling at around 10-12k mark to pre-empt the wall. Just gel, I don't wanna carry too much food on me during a run lol.Try refuelling around 10k mark. Gel, banana, chocolates, etc.
Last time i was also gong gong when training 21k. Muscles no problem, not giving way after run. Cardio fine, not bursting. But feel dull like you said.
Once refuel with gel or even a sugar drink, can run mostly normal again.
Nowadays I only run 10k. Will still refuel after run before proceeding to pull-bar bar workouts.
Otherwise will get the dull and loss of concentration feeling.
Good luck with your optimising and training.ya I can consider re-fueling at around 10-12k mark to pre-empt the wall. Just gel, I don't wanna carry too much food on me during a run lol.
sugary isotonic also can, but will cause thirst. Would prefer a gel + water.
one more thing.... I usually take coffee in morns, otherwise would feel drowsy (normal day basis). So in the end i'm not sure if the mid-race dullness was solved by sugar or caffeine (or both) from my gel lol~
I will try to push higher distances every weekend until eco run HM.
I did a lot self running sub 2 half marathon without drink and gel in Singapore. I I just make sure I drank a lot after my 1.5km warm up run..of coz also need to eat enough on that day.1st HM in the calendar year, so many would wanna join to clock their PBs.
