Try walking first, the duration is key coz you really want the HR to be in zone 1 or zone 2. Cannot siam the duration one for max fats burning. (not talking about utilizing glycogen, in which 1g of that binds with ~ 3 grams of water, that's why for some the weight keeps see-sawing).
I can racewalk in zone 4 at 5.30 min/km pace......so it's not that walking cannot "beat" running.
Start with Skechers shoes. But if you want branded, can try New Balance Rebel v3, good for brisk or racewalking coz the stack height is not very tall, can run also. But go try out in shops first, you might have to + 0.5 sizing.

If you want, can try cycling (PCNs etc), i think it's far easier to sustain 2-4hrs outings for cycling. More cooling too. Can bring quite a fair amt of water in the rear rack.
I was walking and running for 1 year. Recently started cycling as cross training discipline and found that my body fats lagi dropped further. Now i literally have not much pinchable fats at the abdomen area (only around 0.5 at the front and 1 to 1.5 inches for side handles).

Just keep the heart rate at around 110-130 bpm, can liao. It's a more or less thing, no accuracy issue for your goals. Duration 30 mins minimum, start with 2 times a week, then maybe 2 weeks later 3 times, then 2 weeks later 4 times a week. If you can do 6-7 times weekly, then go for it. Then after that 40 mins, 50 mins, 60 mins.

Really need a fair bit of time needed, it's not a low hanging fruit. That is why you hear so many people going "LOL, you won't lose weight / fats with exercise".

So that's why i mentioned cycling might be better and more sustainable. The first month i tried cycling (coz of running overuse injury called ITBS), i clocked 51 hrs. Or more than one and a half hours daily.
