The video did a good analysis, agree with his view. It's the culture for running plus the mental resilience when they commit.
Have you watched 'Run with the wind' anime? Story is built around the Hakone Ekiden. Even the lousiest runner in the team did a17 min for 5km , and he depicted as someone without talent or interest but got recruited for other reason that is not related to running. LOL
Seems interesting, will take a look at the anime when I have the time.

can see clearly i could no longer sustain a pace below 6min/km after approx. 2km. Have to do more threshold and interval runs in shorter distances to build this up again. Nevertheless, a good run.

Wow your drop in fitness after the not short but also not long rest stint is rather extreme, i guess some folks really do drop that much....bo bian just do 4 months of no pressure jogging and some other cardio like racewalking can la.

If cycling cannot why not do racewalking for some x-training? Racewalking i feel is a bit closer to running than cycling, so no need to go gun what 10, 20k of walking. BTW, 3k racewalking is maciam like nearly 5k of running as far as many of your body systems are concerned.
Maybe 1/3/5 racewalking and 2/4/6 running, Sunday cheat day go hoot your fav food.
Already shared, just racewalking (and some SITs) alone for 3-4k "short" distances got me to 6.20 for 1 miler and 9.30 for 2.4k....but the walking part also got intervals/VO2Max/LT2 whatever u wanna call it surges etc.
ie Cheongster would be satisfied, just need to put your mind to it.

yah, quite extreme as you mentioned. bo bian old liao, just have to accept i have to work harder to build it up slowly. Personally, i feel my heart/breathing and legs cannot tahan as well now.
racewalking, x-training or continue running daily at different intensity also can, but managing work and this quite shiong as now i have to sleep ard 10-11pm and wake up at 4-5am to run, then back in office by 8am to chiong my work. after work reach home, eat dinner and relax talk to wife abit, already 9-10pm. Weekend then can go for longer runs and do some x-training exercises at home.

the timing above is rather slow liao....me 45-55 yr old range...i sense some form of sarcasm here

anyway, for someone like me after running for more than a year,
6km should be completing within 34min (within 5'30" av)
10km should be completing within 57min (within 5'38" av)

Running for one year, this progress is consider good liao. I remember I only dare to attempt a 10km SCSM race after more than a year of running. And my timing was like something 1hr 20 ++ min.
