I did my run yesterday evening and this time tried to hit distance and location while ignoring the time taken to complete it. Remembering some of the advice given to me here, I tried to jog at a much more leisurely pace. Can this be considered a good run? I was hoping to have my average pace around 6.30/km but looks like I ran a little too slow.

talking about watch, i am also monitoring based on the recommendations from the watch app (Coros).

Since i started running again these 2 weeks, even i am above 70%, my runs can be awful. One guess is that due to the change in temperature as SH has been overly hot and humid past 2 weeks after the prolonged rain period. Previously i have been running at autumn, winter and spring climate (Nov 23 till May 24).

Will keep running weekly and try to adapt accordingly.
Slow and steady. Have you consider Creatine?

I had a relapse of hyperthyroidism due to the doc want to monitor for 4 months without meds. Kenna flu, and fitness down the hill after I recovered from the flu. for a few months I was struggling to get back to my former fitness, even though my thyroids are in control with renewed meds.
Only a few months back, I started Creatine, and in less than a month, I am back to my former fitness.

Yes, it's inflammation on below my ankle but not until that serious that I can't move.

Just that can feel an uneasy pressure on that area (red colour ) here when I exert force on it.

I think if I don't sprint n run slowly should still be okay but definitely not better than my left feet.

Yeah i guess not dissimlar to PF pain / feeling also. If comfortable with NSAIDs, can try.
It does lessen the whole episode's duration to fully heal. I feel that with PF, if i early take it, probably just 1 time Arcoxia (24hrs) would do. The longer i drag it out thinking that next day would be ok liao, the more pieces (days) i need to take coz it just gets worse and worse.

That guy has high VO2Max from his TDF training bah and gene. Need alot of base building (easy days) to build resilience. Strength training can only bring you not very far.

Strength training is an adjunct for me....it's needed as icing on the cake before can build those bases and explosive power in sprints (esp for cycling). Really need strength in those specific aspects and i find it especially useful. It's difficult to explain in words how it is useful in real world application but i know it works.
Esp noticeable for hills. (for cycling they call it torque output)

For jogging injury prevention asepct i just follow and do, cant comment much. But i suspect for cycling it helps in the area of not getting simi neck pain back pain shoulder pain, i never even did any bike fit or what and my total duration spent riding/training confirm wont lose to those riding in groups. I need to adopt aero positioning also when riding @ high speeds basically....the longer you can hold it in aero positions, the faster you'd be.

But i think If not going for pure speed then it's not needed as much.....if the endurance aspect is not built up nicely in the first place, which is the lower hanging fruit.

My watch gives me an idea of recovery hours I need after hard runs. Usually, if it's too hard, then I will do an easy run the following day. But if you have rest days in between, then it's possible to keep pushing.

If you are planning to do intervals, important to focus on running form, will help a lot.

Running age matters a lot. If you run seriously for many years, then progress becomes harder from there. Gains will be smaller.

Minor changes like quit smoking/lose weight, also helps a lot.

Experience in racing also matters. If you race a lot, then you are already familiar with the distance and pace yourself well during the race, then progress also becomes hard.

If you accumulate a lot of lifetime mileage consistently, then you'll hit closer towards long distance potential.

Running events matters too. You can still focus on short distance running (100, 200) when older and decide not to transit into long distance. This boils down to personal choice and some being more of fast twitch runner.

Recovery time gets worse with age. Harder to recover from high intensity sessions. More optimal to take days off running or do easy runs or cross training.

*Need to be healthy, balance training more, nutrition becomes more important.
*Need more time to warm up, strides, drills before doing speed workouts.

Sage's video of coz makes sense. Well of coz age matters, the tables i posted also show just that. Physiological factors would include VO2max and like what you said recovery and yada etc. 5k difference between 50-55 and 25-30 is already nearly 2 mins diff. or something like i can train and run 18-19 mins then the younger hotshot better be doing 16-17 mins. lol
In fact i have seen 1 amateur youtuber with low subscriber count doing mid 17 mins and he is age 60...not pouplar one, .he isnt those Ben is Running or Nick Bester folks. So while rare, it is possible to train till that level, genetics willing of coz.

But then of coz asking me or even SRY @ 50 years of age to do 14+ or even 15+ mins range would be mission impossible. Just that I feel the max potential is higher than what people normally think it is. Usually the limit is dictated by other factors and not coz of age or even genetics.
Im trying to find 1 Run Elite vid who managed to illustrate this very well....let me say

For pros, i feel reach age 30 or even mid 30s does not mean it's end game for professional sports players, at least for a fair number of them. Still can be (very) competitive. For amateurs like we all, i'd say even age 35-40 still way up there if train properly, the potential is still very high and is higher than what normal folks normally think it is. That is why got the vid below

I like this vid and always post it. (for motivation). (y) No excuses. Also part of the reason why i really got serious into doing strength.

Remember, NO EXCUSES. (of coz don't overtrain, that is another animal, and over-excercising is real)

Actually talking about TDF cycling and VO2max, i think it does help
Manage to up 6 points. Of coz got genetic ceiling and those stuff, but still you would not know what is your true potential and probably havent hit it (yet)

So, no excuses.

if you can sustain your pace at around 5'15" for the middle 3km, with some training, am pretty sure you can clock an average of 5'15-5'20+" for the entire 5km.
Can go faster but not going olympigs. no point losing my life just for bragging rights. I still have a few more ippt to go before they strike me out.

How often do you run in your supershoes? High stack height are not very good for easy days due to instability and slow pace.
I haven't touched my super shoes for a long time. My easy days are always on non plated, lower stack shoes, as the pace is much slower. Only long runs and higher tempo I bring out the super shoes. Long runs, is I need to acclimatized my feet to supershoes (train micro balancing calves muscles/tendons) and higher tempo san sharp turns are more stable workouts.

I would said very often after I brought it.

As long as it's outdoor running, I will wear it to run.

But ever since there's some tear, I stopped wearing it liao and run with my 1080 v13.

I still haven't utilise my 15% discount yet

I always rubbed chinese medical oil on that area every night before I sleep.

Still can slow run but cannot slammed that area hard.

65 is elite level Vo2max liao. Most of male presenters in GTN channel are at this level. This is from your Huawei?
65 VO2max! wow! that's fantastic!

Since i started using Coros Pace 3 last sept, my VO2max was 40 then slowly peaked at 43 in Nov-Dec, now back to 40. :ROFLMAO:

BEhind the heel could be Achilles tendonitis too.

It's just that ball a bit swollen as compared to the left leg.

I used to have it before and rest a few days okay already.

Not until cannot walked but can feel some pressure on the heel while walking.

I read that running helped on joint 🤔

Looking good, should run more at this leisure pace and slowly increase your distance over time.

I think nowadays, peak age is older even for elite athletes. Not too sure if it's because of better shoe technology/nutrition but you have Hagos Gebrhiwet running 2nd best 5k times at 30. Bekele/Kipchoge still going strong at 40+. If you are amateur runner, then it's even better.

Yes, max potential most don't really get there if they don't run consistently and train competitively over the years. And that's also dependent on whether get any injuries along the way, since it will hamper progress.

Overtraining is possible for even junior runners, if they skip steps and want to progress too quickly. So, definitely a thing to watch out for.

Seems about right since Yi Jun Vo2max is 83 and Aaron Vo2max is 72 (took the test couple years back when his 2.4km time was worse off). Both are national athletes.

Yi Jun was able to run 25.47 for a 7km road race and 1.22 for Sundown HM last year.
