1. What HR meter your are using? I had those HPB tracker, that occasionally shoot up to 180bpm when I am just resting watching tv.Is it real that after 6km run your heart rate is only 130?
Mine is in 180s after 4km and stays that afterwards.

2. How old are you? For young 30s, 150bpm to 165 is only zone 2 for the fit one. So 180 for young runner is not alarming.
3. If you HR stays high even after the run for a long time, it is likely that was a very hard run, and body wasn't able to recover fast enough. My run was easy run, less than 30 sec should recover to standing HR.
4. That was a steady state easy run I had , aim at base building. So keeping HR low is more important than pacing target of the marathon training. I am off my marathon training for this week to recover from my toe injury.
5. Low hr training aims to base build, i.e muscle, skeletal, mitochondria and metabolic adaptation for an efficient runner. It is also called a economy run in other training program. Since not training for a marathon, just ignore pace and just run and end your run easy.
Help you postI use Samsung Watch for heart rate and I am 47 Male. I only run once a week now and no warming up.
When I stop at 180 and into walking my heart rate dips to 140 after 5 mins. I wonder whether I am over stretching?

Thank you for the idea. I am lean and well in good shape.47 male, run once a week now........ dont reckon doing other trainings also, eg strength, let alone cross train. i think for safety's sake better dont go do nearly 180 HR. Esp without heart screening(s). Are you on the plump side? eg > 25% body fat?
For me i only dare to push after 2 rounds of stress tests, prior to that 4 times normal ECGs at GPs (pretty useless IMO but good enough for general exercising). Ever since i reached 40+ years old, i also do the annual cheap "health checkup"....zero comobidities for the past decade.
ps I also test my fasting blood sugar and sometimes OGTT ever 2-3 weeks, coz my mum and in-laws do rather regular testing also (my FIL is pre-diabetic to diabetic, depends on how he controls)

If you ran once a week (4km), then quite normal to be subconsciously pushing a lot harder during the 4km run

What kind of heart screening do I need? My last health screening was years ago but I have been active as I walk a lot. I only resumed running last year after a many years gap.
Can do the $400 type, entry level. Basically you'd want the exercise treadmill ECG which is a stress test, plus of coz some basic bloodwork done. Available at many clinics, just enquire can liao. If you are in lean shape and assuming not skinny fat (normal bmi but high body fat %), then you should do just fine mian kia one, just the $400 one is great.
Still, once a week exerciser in late 40s, just start off and cap HR below 140 can liao, after 6-12 months will see significant improvement in pace one. Beginner's gains very noticeable one. Maybe after 6 months and go gun a bit of threshold. If not niggle and pain here and there also not too fun. Need to slowly increase intensity/mileage.
True. That was a good run last night and my phone GPS says 6.4km ad 5.5min/km. Watch distance measurement is really inaccurate. My target is to get to 10km.
@hip_programs Just looking at your HR climb, you are definitely doing minimum tempo to threshold run. HR recovery won't be so fast.Help you post

Low weekly mileage, doing only only tempo run is alright. Good thing this is the most efficient calories burning mode if you don't have other running goals other than burning calories
No need to benchmark your recovery hr unless you have another intense training coming soon. Next day is full rest, not a concern.Thank you. Heart rate recovery number is something new to learn. My watch says 181 when I stop and 1 min later it's 162. Better than the benchmark of 18 after 1 mins. After 2-5 mins the drop per mins slowed to single digits.
You are right, my only run is the most intense run.
