Just do shorter distances ba. Not say less of a challenge even for 3k 5k or heck even 800m/1500m....... but more of training hours easier to manage and fit into our SG work/lifestyle context.
Like i was posting / discussing with LWZ yesterday, career willing and location willing.
Haha I still need the longer distances as I don't have the speed for shorter distances. 15 to half probably

I am hardly even satisfied with HM, how to go for marathon?! I am cramping up doing a HM. But there are races I want to try - 15km (there's a few of such races in Sg). I have never cramped up running a fast 15k. I also would like to try overseas races if I can work my way up to HM. Not in a rush to do it though, still 5/10k.

My job was the exact same case last year. But contract didn't get renewed, found a new job that was 100% WIO, more people-facing. Long story short, I went from napping in the afternoon during work hours to napping after work. I need proper naps to function effectively for my runs.

His Z2 probably be mid 4.3x, 4.20 is high Z2 for him. He is fast, but I would still say there are crazier people out there.

Ben Khoo > 3.57 min/km LT1
Vanessa > 4.17 min/km LT1
Shaun > 3.32 min/km LT1

And Vanessa is faster than Aaron last year based on a 10k race. But regardless, he is still a legend.

He is outright much faster than the 2nd fastest Singaporean marathon runner, also 5 minutes. Most likely, they send Ahmad Arif Ibrahim and Henry He Yong to represent.

Henry will be an interesting pick because he is in his early 40s and still doing well.

Same, my current work wants me to go work full time, study part time. Hard to find time if I get into part time studies next year.

If got 15km race must share, never seen yet haha. But yes, half and above is totally diff from 5/10. I feel like my ideal is about 17 lol

Yeah.....but can be trained one, even for 3k.....the speed and blood lactate levels involved aren't terrrrribly high.

And 5k seriously isnt that terribly "fast", as in literally seriously speed endurance fast. Our VO2max levels technically at our amateur levels wont matter heckloads, as long as it isn't really really low (genetically) in which it presents a real challenge, eg one reason or another limited to low 40s.
But if your blood is for HM then also can, still somewhat manageable.

10k got issue, coz the race fees %!@#!@# costly for such "short" distance. 5k forget it, join parkruns sua. 🤣
3k is ownself DIY can liao.

Never tried half marathon before. Max was 15km.

Tried it today.

Quite painful especially the last 3km. Mind keep telling myself to give up and just do 20km. Too slow unable to do below 2hr

Must remember to hydrate and possibly fuel properly bro. Have fun.

But one vid i came across recently is that these injuries usually stem from even 1 single session wrt jump in distance of over 10% (i think esp if coupled with higher paces/intensities). Not even weekly. So need to be mindful and see what your body says....... if it is esp painful then gotta stop immediately.

In 2023 i was doing 10k, so long runs 11-12. Suddenly tried 17km still ok. 2nd try 18.8k metatarsal pain liao, wasnt really slow pace too, iirc 4:43 tempo liao.

I share the vid again

Going Any pace under 6 mins / km Is not slow bro . U have Definitely put in effort.

Not only that. Running HM distance not only required more preparation but also our weather too.

@Kuudere

Hayden has x-men wolverine genes.
Trying for top 3 or at least top 10 this Sunday

In early May, 1 day after he broke his 10k PB (27:xx) in some ASICS Tokyo Race, he buanged and broke so many ribs/collarbone and punctured his lung. Now back to racing competitively.

first time slightly above 2hr in such hot humid conditions, very good already! You will break into 2hr mark very soon. Keep it going!

@winningeleven tmr got sg60 discount on stan chart marathon. Still not cheap but cheaper than it will be for a while. If you really want to go for it, should make use of the discount. Lasts for 24 hours.

https://www.singaporemarathon.com/registration/registration-overview/

Not cheap at all... I was expecting it to be minus $60 from it... Last year i bought in super early for half marathon also slightly less than $100. This year i missed the super early pricing when i was on overseas vacation and didn't check email so i missed it. Also the Pen for below 2 hours HM already closed.

I do think he made big improvements from early last year till now. I think is due to his triathlon pursuit which recently past few months really ramped up with all the races. And very possibly still getting faster.

Oh coz folks like Shaun is also getting faster, Vanessa too. And Ben setting new record recently in June.

But one big diff is, Aaron is totally self funded / self "meddling" / self find out ie basically what you see from the youtube vids, no endorsements no ambassadorship etc. Not really different from all of us here in this thread.....just more siaolang level. 🤣

Triathlon/dual sport athletes have been doing well. Ahmad Arif Ibrahim, he competes for triathlon and ran the 2nd fastest marathon by a Singaporean this year at 2.32 for his debut run. Xuan Jie ran 1.21 HM as a duathlete. Aaron was sponsored by saucony if I am not wrong, not sure if he is still sponsored.

Sub 90 HM goal

If need me to pace, let me know. I can probably run 15-16km at that pace then stop whenever I feel the cramp coming

If got 15km race must share, never seen yet haha. But yes, half and above is totally diff from 5/10. I feel like my ideal is about 17 lol

So far, 15km race only have 2. Income eco run and SingTel cancer run.

I am thinking of going for the SingTel cancer run by slowly tuning up my intervals. Need to wake up early to go ECP run.

I received her video as well. She did well for the 10k and almost broke sub 40.

That’s the life of a pro, they don’t have a long time to rest/recover. There are pros that voluntarily rest/recover and miss the season, then try to get back, didn’t end up doing well.

Just did a HM at stadium using my super heavy adidas prime x 2 strung . Can really feel the heavy weight of the shoes after 15km . But I didn't regret getting it as it is still a very good long run shoe for me. Imagine after using this shoe for marathon training and on the race day. U swap with the lighter racing shoe. Definitely can fly on that day

So far only use 30km. Probably need another 50km to fully run in.
